Youth Housing Support Worker Jobs in Ontario

Provide health teaching about addiction, mental illness and symptom management

Identify, promote resolution, and management of all emergency situations concerning participants, staff, and property

Ensure effective communication with Director, Managers, staff team, and external treatment teams concerning each participant’s progress

Experience working in the addiction and mental health field

Health and safety knowledge; knowledge of safe food handling procedures

Applied Suicide Interventions Skills and Training (ASIST)

1 to 3 years’ experience working with person crisis management and violence against women settings;

Provides programming and facilitates group workshops (e.g. organizing, safety plans, anger management);

Applies the knowledge of the issues of trauma and the dynamics of woman abuse to develop and implement effective support strategies;

Offers clients appointment accompaniment (e.g. court), crisis intervention, supportive counselling, referrals and advocacy;

Working knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act;

Knowledge of harm reduction strategies and training in administering naloxone an asset

Post-secondary degree/certification in Social Services with experience in housing and community development – or a combination of education and experience

Knowledge of housing bi-law and zoning requirements

Work with landlords to ensure their units comply with bi-law and zoning requirements

Assist tenants in retaining their housing by offering resources and referrals to address their immediate needs

Organize and manage Opening Doors Program evaluation processes

Conduct regular check in’s with clients in the Opening Doors Program to ensure that their tenant responsibilities are being met

Extensive working knowledge of MS Office Professional and strong computer skills

Assists with coordinating and/or compiling accurate and comprehensive regular and special statistical reports to meet organization and LHIN/Ministry requirements

Creates monthly staff schedules for each program in Supportive Housing in consultation with Manager or Director

Assists Managers in maintaining an appropriate pool of relief staff

Conducts interviews in collaboration with Managers for relief staff

Complete other required documentation (e.g. leave management, education requests, travel claims, expense claims) within the required time frames;

Effective communication and time management skills;

Liaise with the Team Lead and Manager with respect to potential discharges and admissions.
