Shelter Trauma Counsellor Jobs

Comprehensive knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.

Comprehensive knowledge of health care disciplines and their role in trauma care procedures/processes.

Broad knowledge of clinical practice, policies, procedures and standards related to trauma care.

Demonstrated ability to teach, coach and plan educational sessions for an interdisciplinary team.

Demonstrated ability to manage projects, including demonstrated ability to plan, research, implement, evaluate, manage, organize and prioritize work.

Comprehensive knowledge of Quality Assurance and Process Improvement processes.

Comprehensive knowledge of trauma and experience counselling people through the trauma recovery process

Minimum 2 years (full-time) supervised in-person counselling experience

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

Provide individual and/or group counselling to people who have experienced trauma

Participate in training offered elsewhere and by Klinic in order to maintain and improve quality of service

Undergraduate degree in a relevant social science field; graduate degree in counselling preferred

Very good knowledge of psychological care in a trauma context and experience in crisis and emergency management

Experience in management coaching (an asset)

Work closely with managers and human resources to advise and support the organization in returning to normal after the event

Assess and analyze the needs of organizations calling on the trauma service

Coordinate post-trauma interventions in organizations that are clients of Optima and Dialogue

Reports unusual occurrences and risk management issues as it relates to the Trauma Program.

Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in health care.

Knowledge of research processes and methodology.

Develops collaborative working relationships with other programs and clinical service units to facilitate and support quality trauma care and injury prevention.

Identifies at risk populations for Trauma and assists in developing prevention strategies with other programs.

Coordinates and circulates appropriate trauma data for feedback and problem identification and resolution; makes recommendations as appropriate.

Experience with database management, including installation of software, file management, and data quality

Grade XII plus 2 year program in Health Information Management or equivalent required

Registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)

Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Word, Excel and Intranet

Three years related experience required

Experience with query and report writing as well as graphic presentation of data for publication
