Senior Wildlife Biologist Jobs

Wildlife management experience including project development, field work for data collection, data analysis, reporting, conveying management recommendations.

Experience in choice theory (Human Dimensions) as applied to First Nations relations and wildlife management.

Engaging First Nations on wildlife management programs or projects.

Experience in conducting environmental monitoring and assessments.

Experience interpreting and applying natural resource related legislation and policy in BC.

Experience preparing and submitting professional documents (e.g., briefing notes, information notes, early-warning notes, minister response letters).

Registration as a Professional Biologist in Alberta (required)

Alberta Class 5 Driver's License (preferred)

What You Need To Succeed

Support preparation of wildlife assessments for EAs/EISs and associated management plans in compliance with applicable federal, provincial/territorial requirements.

Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills.

3+ years of environmental consulting experience; prior experience in government, and/or mining or oil and gas sectors are considered assets.

Environmental Assessment experience considered an asset.

Statistical analysis or spatial mapping skills considered an asset.

French language skills an asset.

Support wildlife regulatory compliance requirements (monthly and annual reporting, permitting approvals, renewals, etc);

· 8+ years of experience consulting in fisheries/aquatics and project management.

· Consulting skills: project management, client service, verbal and written communications, and business development skills.

o experience deriving management conclusions from data (for example through statistical, narrative-based, or qualitative approaches), and

· Conducting Project Management and managing client and regulatory communications.

o strong expertise and demonstrated experience engaging with fisheries-related challenges across western Canada,

o Experience utilizing a variety of tools to evaluate fish presence and habitat quality, including:

Field experience with ability to travel to job sites in remote locations including shift work which may include evenings and/or weekends.

Conduct plant and wildlife surveys for habitat assessments, special-status species, and other project requirements.

Research regional specific natural resources, survey requirements, and reporting needs.

A minimum 2 years of biological working experience.

Knowledge of environmental policy and regulations and how they apply to industrial development activities in western Canada, including AER and AEP.

Excellent communication skills, to communicate technical information to key stakeholders including project managers, regulators, and clients.

Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation gained through formal studies or practical experience.

Experience designing, leading, and conducting wildlife programs and with designing curtailment plans for wind power facilities.

An advanced understanding of ecological methods and statistics and demonstrated experience interpreting complex datasets.

Familiarity with survey requirements for renewable energy development projects in other Canadian jurisdictions.

Current Standard First Aid and CPR Certification.

Communicating frequently and as required with project managers, other field staff, and clients,

Experience in the identification of birds and/or bats by sight.

Experience surveying for wildlife and/or conducting soil assessments, vegetation inventories, or delineating vegetation communities using standard survey protocols.
