Overview Optometric Technicians are healthcare professionals who assist optometrists in providing eye care services to patients. They perform a variety of tasks, such as taking patient histories, performing preliminary vision tests, and helping optometrists with patient examinations. Optometric Technicians must be knowledgeable about eye anatomy, vision tests, and eyeglass prescriptions. Detailed Job Description Optometric Technicians are responsible for providing support to optometrists in the examination and treatment of patients. They are responsible for taking patient histories, performing preliminary vision tests, and helping optometrists with patient examinations. They also provide patient education on eye care, contact lenses, and eyeglasses. Optometric Technicians may also be responsible for ordering and maintaining supplies, scheduling appointments, and filing patient records. Job Skills Required
• Knowledge of eye anatomy, vision tests, and eyeglass prescriptions
• Ability to explain eye care procedures to patients
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Proficiency in computer software programs
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
Job Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certification from an accredited optometric technician program
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting
