Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Safety Management or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities will include the development and delivery of occupational health and safety-training programs including lesson plans;

Must have research and analytical skills;

Must have excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills;

Must have experience working in a computerized environment using the Microsoft Suite of Products;

Should have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations and knowledge of the hazards associated with the work.

Working knowledge of the Canada Labour Code Part II and corresponding regulations and hazard identification will be considered an asset.

Superior organizational and time management abilities.

Reviews injury trending data and discusses trending with Branch management representatives.

Assists Branch management representatives in targeted prevention strategies.

Conducts bi-weekly prevention meetings in association with claims management meetings

Records all activities, costs and decisions associated with accidents in injury management software.

Advises management on WSIA compensation practices, procedures and policies.

Knowledge and experience of computer systems (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g. D2L, Zoom) is an asset

Support students in the use of eConestoga, the learning management system (D2L), as well as maintain course materials within this system

Create and maintain a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds, and learning styles

Post-secondary education in related field is required

Minimum three years of relevant industry experience

Experience teaching online asynchronous students is an asset

Strong knowledge of health insurance management and WorkSafe claims process

Advise employees, Supervisors and Facility Managers regarding health and safety related information (e.g. OHSA, Regulations, Standards, Constructor Policies, etc.).

Strong knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations. Excellent knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)

Previous experience of developing health and safety policies and procedures.

Previous experience of working on a Public Private Partnership (P3) contract, and/ or in a government or similar environment

Facilitate positive change by developing or assisting with the implementation of new health and safety policies, programs, procedures, legislation and equipment.

Manage the site health unit and hearing testing facility.

Previous work experience in health and safety or occupational health nursing.

Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

Knowledge of current occupational health practices and applicable legislation is desirable.

Act as the site leader for employee safety, health, and wellness

General knowledge of occupational health and safety as evidenced by education and/or experience in OH&S is a requirement

Assist and advise business units in the implementation of safety management system elements.

Perform safety and quality audits to validate compliance to the safety management systems and improve overall operational efficiency.

Develop safety management performance metrics and collaborate with internal/external stakeholders to ensure that data is collected, compiled, and reported consistently.

Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to develop and deliver training, prepare systems safety plans, reports and procedures and manage stakeholder relationships

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to handle issues involving internal and external stakeholders.

Experience with incident investigation, hazard identification, risk management and/or auditing.

CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) Certification;

Considerable experience as an OH&S practitioner, preferably in a related industry; and

Strong problem solving, collaboration and organization skills

Excellence in open and clear communication and interpersonal skills

Experience planning, organizing and delivering training programs and workshops

Manage the reporting requirements to the Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Health;

Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) is considered an asset;

Manage and oversees programs and services to reduce WSIB costs and short-term and long-term absence costs;

Provides oversight to Service-wide occupational health, safety and wellness programs and education campaigns;

Previous experience in a unionized environment is preferred;

Experience working collaboratively with senior leadership and with multiple stakeholders on organizational-wide committees;

Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of relevant statutory, regulatory, policy and practice requirements regarding prevention matters.

A minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in the interpretation and application of legislative, policy and practice requirements

Design and manage complex research and analytical projects with respect to prevention issues, including legal and practice advice and development.

Excellent written and verbal communication and analytical skills are required
