Overview Foster care workers provide support and guidance to children and young people who are in the care of the state. They work with foster families, social workers, and other professionals to ensure that the children in their care are safe, healthy, and have access to the resources they need to thrive. Detailed Job Description Foster care workers are responsible for providing a safe and nurturing environment for children and young people in foster care. They work with foster families, social workers, and other professionals to ensure that the children in their care are safe, healthy, and have access to the resources they need to thrive. They provide emotional support and guidance to the children, helping them to develop the skills they need to become independent and successful adults. Foster care workers also help to coordinate services for the children, such as medical care, educational support, and recreational activities. Job Skills Required• Knowledge of child development and behavior
• Ability to build relationships with children and families
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience and understanding
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to manage challenging behavior
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations
• Good organizational and problem-solving skills
Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field
• Relevant experience working with children and young people
• Valid driver’s license
• Current First Aid and CPR certification
• Clear criminal record check

• Knowledge of child development and behavior
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations
• Knowledge of the foster care system
• Knowledge of community resources and services
Job Experience
• Previous experience working with children and young people
• Previous experience working in a foster care setting
Job Responsibilities
• Developing relationships with children and families
• Providing emotional support and guidance to children in foster care
• Coordinating services for the children, such as medical care, educational support, and recreational activities
• Monitoring the safety and well-being of children in foster care
• Assisting with the transition of children from foster care to permanent homes
• Maintaining accurate records and reports
• Attending meetings and court hearings related to the children in foster care
