Overview: Family Workers are professionals who provide support, guidance, and resources to families in need. They work with families to identify and address issues such as poverty, mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence. They also provide counseling, advocacy, and referrals to appropriate services. How To Become an Family Worker: To become a Family Worker, you will need to have a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field. You may also need to have a license or certification in your state. Additionally, you will need to have strong communication and problem-solving skills. Family Worker Skills: Communication, problem-solving, empathy, active listening, conflict resolution, organizational, and time management skills. Family Worker Knowledge: Knowledge of family dynamics, social services, mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence. Family Worker Responsibilities: Assessing family needs, providing counseling and advocacy, developing and implementing plans to address family issues, referring families to appropriate services, and providing follow-up services. Family Worker Experience: Experience working with families in need, preferably in a social services setting. Family Worker Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field. Licensure or certification may be required in some states. Family Worker Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field. Tools to Help Family Worker Work Better: Case management software, communication software, and online resources.
