Emergency Communications Operator Jobs

Carries out any other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of positions in this classification.

Please note we are hiring for 2 positions

Responds to requests for assistance and taking reports and complaints regarding conditions on campus;

Tracks and follows up on active incidents, and maintains records of all completed work including a status schedule for phone inquiries.

Generate, maintain logs, incident reports and other information records as per established policies and procedures

General knowledge of fire, rescue and emergency incident management and medical services

General knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements:

Eligibility for and willingness to obtain the Emergency Services Communicator Certification from an accredited association, organization, or institution

Eligibility for and willingness to obtain the following National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) qualifications:

NFPA 1061 – Standard for Public Safety Telecommunications Personnel Professional Qualifications Levels I and II

Demonstrated experience in a customer service work environment

High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years experience in a relevant communications centre - OR-

Must complete National Academy of Emergency Dispatch (NAED) Emergency Fire Dispatcher (EFD) certification within one (1) year of the start date

Must demonstrate extensive knowledge of the City of Edmonton streets, roads, major routes, and commonplace locations

Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and problem-solving skills with familiarity with fire operational and medical terminology

Represent the City of Edmonton in a professional and respectful manner

Receive, evaluate and prioritize emergency calls using strict fire protocols and deploy the appropriate resources

Must have an Ontario Secondary School graduation Diploma or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency;

Must have operating knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e. Windows and Word);

Must have effective written and verbal skills;

Must have knowledge of office procedures and practices;

Previous experience in an emergency environment is an asset;

Radio communications experience in an emergency environment will be considered an asset;
