Communications Operator – Probationary Jobs

Responds to requests for assistance and taking reports and complaints regarding conditions on campus;

Tracks and follows up on active incidents, and maintains records of all completed work including a status schedule for phone inquiries.

Generate, maintain logs, incident reports and other information records as per established policies and procedures

General knowledge of fire, rescue and emergency incident management and medical services

General knowledge of the following legislation, regulations, or requirements:

Eligibility for and willingness to obtain the Emergency Services Communicator Certification from an accredited association, organization, or institution

Eligibility for and willingness to obtain the following National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) qualifications:

NFPA 1061 – Standard for Public Safety Telecommunications Personnel Professional Qualifications Levels I and II

Demonstrated experience in a customer service work environment

Experience in classroom teaching, face to face, blended learning, online formats and a good working knowledge of educational technologies

ACCT 4520 Advanced Management Accounting

Relevant senior level work experience in a business environment, minimum five years

Experience in content delivery and presenting to a diverse audience

A good working knowledge of computer applications

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively with colleagues in a team environment

Minimum of 2 Years’ Industrial Experience will be considered an asset

Provide relief in operations jobs for breaks, vacations or other absences

Actively participate in EHS Programs

Maintain housekeeping of the assigned areas

Perform other duties as required

Ability to read and understand safety rules and regulations

Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent with a minimum of three years’ experience

Experience with digital fabrication and software (Solidworks, Rhino, etc.)

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to interact with faculty, staff and students

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and multi-task

Effective interpersonal skills with a strong understanding of therapeutic communication.

Current RPN //RN registration with BCCNM . RPN registration preferred for faculty teaching psychiatry.

Previous experience in an emergency environment is an asset;

Radio communications experience in an emergency environment will be considered an asset;

Graduate of a post-secondary Emergency Services Dispatch accredited certification OR previous Emergency Services Communications Centre experience;

Exercises good judgement and follows established procedures in decision making responsibilities within the Emergency Services division;

Grade 12 education or equivalent secondary education as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education;

Demonstrated communication skills, both written and verbal;

Demonstrated customer service and public relations skills;

Possession of both a post-secondary Emergency Services Dispatch accredited certificate and previous Emergency Services Communications Centre experience is preferred.
