In this role, you will be responsible for:

Working with families to resolve issues and provide support

Finding suitable arrangements to resolve cases

Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and techniques.

Assists clinical staff in the planning and implementation of psychoeducational and lifeskills groups as required.

Attends related in-service education programs as requested to maintain a high standard of knowledge.

Provides clients with transportation and accompaniment to and from group, work sites, educational institutions, recreational events, training events, and appointments.

Assists staff in planning and implementing social, recreational and vocational activities and groups for clients.

Provides one-to-one supportive counselling to clients by methods such as problem solving, de-escalation techniques, and activity-focused interventions.

Very good knowledge of psychological care in a trauma context and experience in crisis and emergency management

Experience in management coaching (an asset)

Work closely with managers and human resources to advise and support the organization in returning to normal after the event

Assess and analyze the needs of organizations calling on the trauma service

Coordinate post-trauma interventions in organizations that are clients of Optima and Dialogue

Provide single session 1:1 in person or telephone support for clients who will benefit from supports to alleviate any immediate distress

Assist clients and families to identify their concerns, increase their awareness, access resources and appropriate education about mental health and addictions

Understand the experiences and needs of the mental health and addictions populations

Build rapport and initiate conversation with others using interpersonal skills

Demonstrate crisis intervention skills for both telephone and in-person situations

Education and/or experience in human services, social work, or related field

Excellent problem-solving skills and understanding of the barriers that deter at-risk individuals from obtaining and maintaining safe and affordable housing. 

Good organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 

Computer skills and report writing ability required. 

Provides information, referrals, and support to clients residing on our health services floor

Ensure that all interactions with clients are carried out in a safe, dignified, and unobtrusive manner

Experience in handling emergency situations, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and case management

Perform other related work as assigned by the Program Manager and/or designate

Registered Social Worker (Degree) or post-secondary education (Diploma) in a related field is an asset

Strong written and verbal communication skills, and computer skills

Standard First Aid/CPR, ASIST Certification, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training is considered an asset

Provide access to and support with transition out for clients to the emergency shelter; ensuring all documents/forms are accurately completed

Good organization and time management skills.

Knowledge of childhood normal and abnormal development including extensive understanding of childhood disabilities.

Experience working with children with additional disabilities.

3 or more years' experience working with children with additional disabilities is an asset.

Educates stakeholders about VLRC and its specialized programs offered to children and their families and the importance of early intervention.

Position utilizes problem solving abilities related to implementing and developing intervention and therapy programs for children with vision loss.

Experience in individual, couple and family counselling essential

Previous clinical mental health experience in an acute care hospital setting is required

Sound knowledge of mental health disorders, DSM IVR classifications and pertinent legislation

Sound knowledge of mental status evaluations, psychosocial assessments, suicide and violence risk assessments, psychiatric history taking, and discharge planning

Skilled working with a broad range of client groups and their significant supports

Working knowledge of community resources

Support intake process through applicant selection process, interview participation, intake management and follow up with new participants.

Experience dealing with aggressive behaviours and effective de-escalation and boundary setting skills.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of internal fire regulations and procedures, and other emergency procedures and ensure health and safety standards are maintained.

Social Service Worker diploma or other related education.

2+ years’ experience working with older adults with mental health, addictions issues and street involvement.

Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
