Volunteer Digital Community Outreach & Engagement Officer

You will join a team that is supporting an innovative social enterprise startup to harness the power of digital technology to build knowledge communities focused on improving rural livelihoods. We collaborate with agriculture experts to share capacity building knowledge with underserved small-scale farmers, particularly women and youth.

One of the most significant challenges for small island developing states is the vulnerability of agricultural production in the face of climate change.

Our free digital platform - www.Farmer.Community - connects small-scale farmers with one another and the power of knowledge. Unlocking the collective impact of climate-smart farming resources and mobile technology.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with subject matter experts, the Community Outreach and Engagement Officer is a member of a team that manages the Farmer.Community digital hub.

Key activities include:

  1. Growth: Increase active membership of the digital Community and convert newcomers into regulars. Digital marketing, promotion, referral/word-of-mouth. Optimize membership life-cycle funnel.
  2. Content: Create, edit, facilitate, and solicit content for the Hub. Create content about the Community and how-to use the Community. Use recognition and social influence principles.
  3. Moderation: Remove obstacles to participation and encourage members to make contributions. Initiate discussions, develop and refine guidelines, solicit contributions, highlight popular topics, remove the inappropriate/ irrelevant material.
  4. Events and activities: Create and facilitate events to keep members engaged. Initiate regular online events, organize irregular online events.
  5. Relationship and influence: Build relationships with key members and gain influence within the Community. Recruit and manage volunteers. Build and manage an insider group.
  6. User experience: Improve the Farmer.Community platform and participation experience for members. Increase social density, remove redundant features, add new elements, and refine the design.
  7. Technology support: Support the optimization of the user experience through training, developing, and supporting onboarding processes, and customer relations management.


Qualifications:

Essential:

A first-level university degree in communications, social sciences, agronomy, digital transformation, gender and development studies, international development, or related field relevant to the position.

Desirable:

An advanced university degree (Master's level or above) in one of the above-mentioned fields. Additional qualification or training in community engagement, project management, policy/advocacy/communications, or similar.


Experience:

Essential:

  • Proficient with content management and collaboration tools (including JIra, Confluence, and community platform software)
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in the field social sciences, public health, business administration, gender and development studies, agronomy, or Agri-Food systems, some of which gained in an international context.
  • Extensive knowledge of advocacy in the global Agri-Food sector.
  • A self-starter with strong leadership qualities and project/task management skills who is comfortable working with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent understanding of community mobilization, community engagement, knowledge management and content management and ability to actively solve challenges related to those areas.
  • Excellent client service focus and ability to communicate and influence change.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in the women’s, youth’s, and rural community or social impact sector.
  • Experience in working on the development and roll out of change management initiatives and projects across multi-level organizations and across stakeholder groups.
  • Experience as the administrator of an online work platform and/or online community of practice platforms.
  • Familiar with the software development lifecycle (including familiarity with basic software testing and user experience concepts).

Use of Language Skills:

Essential: Expert knowledge of English. Desirable: Expert knowledge of French.
