Purpose


The ideal candidate is an expert storyteller who can bridge visuals and sound to tell captivating stories. The video editor is responsible for aiding in the creation of powerful story concepts for internal & external communications, social media campaigns & advertisements to help the Bank’s overall business strategy.


With a solutions-driven attitude they are able to quickly cut/splice & mix using the latest editing software but are also passionate about creating thoughtfully, with attention to detail and without losing sight of commercial realities.


This may involve working with Scotiabank clients, coordinating third party vendors, managing updates and improvements to technology solutions and ensuring risk assessment procedures are adhered to, execute appropriate avoidance or mitigation strategies, and escalate as required.


Accountabilities


  • Managing all project related media and assets from ingest to archive including proxy files
  • Post-production (video & audio editing, color grading, mixing, finishing). They bring sight and sound together in order to tell cohesive stories, in unique and compelling ways; both long and short-form.
  • Taking a brief to grasp production team’s needs and specifications, receiving and interpreting filming notes
  • Revising existing creative accordingly and work with managers for sign-off.
  • Create rough and final cuts on multiple projects on tight deadlines
  • Continuously discover and implement new editing technologies and industry’s best practices to maximize efficiency
  • Trim footage segments and put together coherent narratives
  • Ensure logical sequencing and smooth running of narrative and b-roll
  • Working closely with team and staff, ensuring all assigned projects are of the highest professional quality and that the Bank's brand standards are adhered to; delivered on time and within budget; developed, designed and produced in the most effective and cost-efficient manner by staying current on new developments taking place in interactive design and digital media.
  • Ensuring executional accuracy and professional excellence while managing brand architecture and graphic issues in all advertising media, customer communication and staff materials, maintaining a clear customer focus in all communication projects emanating from the Bank.
  • Working closely with the multimedia team and translation services to ensure graphics are translated accurately into visually compelling components and communicating changes to critical users, including senior management.
  • Implementation of creative design, development & execution of internal and external initiatives by:
  • Archiving final files and accurately track all hours and revisions for studio metrics.
  • Manages the design and post-production of video in the process of concept creation and user experience for Scotiabank Group clients by:
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Working with stakeholders to sign-off and release all approved material using project management platforms, video hosting platforms and other appropriate channels
  • Source and Input music, edit and clean up dialogues, use graphics and effects
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Source fitting footage and materials from raw material, video libraries, other projects and stock websites


Education / Experience / Other Information


  • Expertise in editing software packages
  • Passion to create, solutions-driven attitude and attention to detail
  • Experienced in short form as well as long form editing, creating visual narratives with b-roll, multi-cam productions and multi track audio mixing
  • Degree in Broadcasting, Visual Media Design, Film or related studies
  • 5+ years industry experience as production editor in professional broadcasting, studio or corporate production environment


(e.g. Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Microsoft Office)


  • The ability to work on complex projects collaboratively and independently, within tight deadlines, adapt to changing deadlines and deliver material as per work-back schedule.
  • Highly competent in media management including proxy generation for online/offline workflows
  • Passion for design with understanding of animation, typography, video composition and layout in regards to working with motion graphics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills to clearly communicate the complexities and components of any project to external suppliers and internal groups.
  • Proficiency in Spanish or French is an asset
  • Well versed in graphic and animation software packages (After Effects,Illustrator)
  • Technical knowledge of sound design, color correction, video production and codec compression standards
  • Solid footing on the line between creative expression and commercial reality.
  • Confident interpersonal skills with client focus and ability to work with technology vendor, peers and customer staff at all levels.


Working Conditions


  • The environment in which the incumbent works is characterized by its fast pace. Frequent changes in priorities and activities on concurrent projects may result in high stress levels on periodic basis.
  • The position is carried out in a recording studio environment, which presents low risk of injury or il health from physical or environmental factors. Moderate travel domestically or working offsite maybe required. Non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
  • The Video Editor is required to use a MAC from 32-37 hours per week under normal working conditions. Concentration is needed to review and edit video and audio content.
