Job Description
Do you have experience working with victims of crime or trauma, working knowledge of criminal justice systems and social services resources? If so, we want you on our Community Services team as a Victim Services Caseworker!


You Will


As the successful candidate, you will respond to crisis, provide emotional support, practical assistance and information to victims and witnesses of crime and/or trauma.


  • Be educated on the Criminal Justice System to offer clients involved access to court support including providing information on court process, court orientation, court attendance, court outcomes, and explanation of no contact orders and the administration of the offender's sentence.
  • Conduct safety and suicide risk assessments for people impacted by abuse, trauma and loss as well as help guide safety planning. Offer Critical Incident debriefings to groups and individuals impacted by a traumatic event.
  • Maintain accurate records and other administrative duties, including accessing information from RCMP, maintain Victim Services (VSIS) files, collect statistics for Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General and reports to RDCO.
  • Maintain client confidentiality with the disclaimer of the requirement to report specific crime events to RCMP (child abuse, domestic violence and harm to self/others).
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Liaise with Criminal Justice partners including RCMP, Specialized Domestic Violence Unit, Coroner's Office, Crown Counsel and Crime Prevention to assist and support victims of crime.
  • Accept referrals from RCMP, general public and community colleagues with a quick response time for initial client contact.
  • Assist clients with forms such as Victim Impact Statement, Crime Victim Assistance Program, supportive housing, income assistance and other relevant referrals.
  • Assist RCMP on serious crime, homicide files and regularly consult to ensure, for example, information disclosed to victims/family does not negatively impact investigation.
  • Promote Victim Services through active community involvement, including participation in community committees, focus groups, and educational events.


We are looking for someone who has a minimum of 1 year experience working with victims of crime or trauma. You will have working knowledge of social services resources and issues including: grief support and trauma reactions, mental illness, abuse, suicide intervention etc. In addition, you will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to respond to situations with tact and discretion. You will need to be able to meet and maintain RCMP Security Clearance and have a valid BC Driver's Licence.


This is a CUPE 338 position that works Tuesday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with an on-call rotation and pays $39.78 per hour.
