Underwriter Or Senior Underwriter (Commercial Mid-Market)

Under technical direction, responsible for underwriting risks in a book of business. Works within specific limits of authority on assignments requiring significant technical complexity and coordination. Utilizes underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Achieves gross written premium and new business goals specific to Customer Segment and/or Product Line plans. Drive new business growth in core products & customer segments.
• Utilizes advanced functionality in relevant CNA systems to perform day-to-day activities.
• Establishes effective practices to continuously communicate appetite/industry strategies; driving effective market messaging
• Works with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.
• Demonstrates adherence to underwriting discipline to minimize exposure and appropriately price risks
• Effectively uses Risk Control and Claims in pre-qualification of prospects
• Participate in underwriting audits as required
• May provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and to other functional areas, particularly when related to cross-selling opportunities
• Keeps current on provincial/territory issues and regulations, industry activity, and trends and freely shares information with others.
• Develop a pipeline process to target specific new accounts and measure outcomes including pipeline management, broker intelligence, producer management, and sales call execution
• Production of new business, including risk analysis, pricing, negotiating, setting terms, referrals to management as necessary, etc.
• Utilizes effective relationship management to ensure improved and/or expanded relationships with target brokers/producers to ensure the achievement of targeted growth, profitability, and retention goals

• Ability to work independently.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Professional designations are preferred.
• A minimum of three to five years of commercial underwriting experience.
