About The Role

As our next Technical Manager – Open Pit, reporting to the General Manager, based in Vancouver, you will work collaboratively towards delivering high-quality solutions and results.


Job purpose

To ensure efficient and effective delivery of projects, including risk and quality management. The candidate should have experience in development of technical documents (reports) for key clients through various project execution phases (scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility, site assessment, remediation, and decommissioning/closure). The candidate will maintain, build, and further develop client relationships as part of our project delivery and business development goals.


Core Functions

Administration

  • Develop new business according to the Business Plan.
  • Participate in management of AMC as a business.


Budgets

  • Manage group performance against budget.
  • Provide input to the strategic regional budget and forecasts.


Consulting

  • Ensure that all work is peer reviewed before transmittal to client.
  • Act as Project Manager for designated projects.
  • Undertake own consulting.
  • Act as Peer Reviewer for designated projects.


Human Resource

  • Address appropriate Occupational Health and Safety issues.
  • Assist in staff recruitment.
  • Manage own personal and professional development.
  • Coach, mentor and build skills of group members.
  • Provide input to salary reviews.
  • Conduct performance reviews for group members.


Management

  • Ensure adequate technical and human resources are available to support group activities.
  • Ensure there is adequate work for the group.
  • Appoint Project Manager and Peer Reviewer for projects within the group.
  • Report to General Manager on a regular basis regarding project and any significant staffing issues.
  • Manage workload for the group.
  • Provide resources as required to other groups.
  • Monitor all projects being done by group members.


Marketing

  • Pro-actively pursue AMC’s business development.
  • Maintain good relations with clients to advance the reputation of AMC.
  • Bring in work for other consultants.
  • Pro-actively pursue marketing activities to promote AMC (eg regularly publish technical papers or articles, attend technical conferences).
  • Build relationships with new clients.


Risk Management

  • Identify and report potential risks.
  • Monitor projects managed within the group for risk exposures.


General

  • Submit timesheets and expense claims.
  • Compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Manual.
  • Maintain the standards set out in various AMC manuals.

Qualifications and experience

  • Registered as a P.Eng. in British Columbia or be eligible to apply for registration.
  • A degree in Mining Engineering with more than 15 years experience relevant to the responsibilities listed above
