Job Description
Title


System Administrator – 1.0 FTE (Onsite)


Reports To


Director, Information Technology


Position Summary


The Systems Administrator is responsible for performing server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly. The Systems Administrator will also be responsible to monitor datacenter health using pre-existing management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers as needed. In addition they will also maintain internal infrastructure requirements including, laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, security updates; support internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, and network segments.


Job Duties


  • Analyze and diagnose security problems and implement fixes that resolve them;
  • Manage and ensure the integrity of host computers, storage systems, and personal systems while meeting service levels;
  • Maintain and improve virtualized servers, file servers, applications, and other services;
  • Provide technical triage and troubleshooting of business-driven issues, and ensure the implementation of a solution;
  • Follow up with users to ensure complete resolution of issues;
  • Troubleshoot unexpected or unplanned outages and work with other members to see the incident through to completion;
  • Work with various teams to better understand and mitigate risks in their environments;
  • Identify and escalate situations requiring urgent attention;
  • Perform routine/scheduled audits of the systems, including all backups;
  • Interact with the help desk and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root cause, and provide technical support;
  • Help to identify system/database/application issues, anticipate problems, and implement solutions within the current infrastructure;
  • Perform on-site and remote user technical support;
  • Occasional desktop support following standard helpdesk procedures and log tickets;
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in the organization and inventory of all hardware and software resources;


*This position is required to participate in STARS on call support rotation covering some evenings, weekends and holidays.*


Education And Experience


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Portal including setup/maintenance of Virtual Machines and Azure Resources
  • A minimum of 3-5 years in previous System Administrator experience coupled with 1 year of desktop support experience;
  • A positive orientation and willingness to “roll up your sleeves” and focus on details in a collaborative team environment;
  • Proven abilities to establish effective working relationships with business and technical subject matter experts and third-party vendors;
  • Experience with Microsoft Endpoint Management and Office 365 Administration (Exchange, Teams, & SharePoint)
  • Experience supporting virtualization infrastructure and a Windows environment;
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with Cisco/Meraki switches in a multi-location environment
  • Motivation and capability to grasp key elements of our business strategy and its implications for the organization;
  • Experience with virtualized server environments an asset;
  • Experience with SIEM’s including Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, and security best practices;
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with Windows Server 2008-2016;
  • Bachelor’s degree in technology or computer science a strong asset;
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with Windows Desktop operating system and applications;
  • An ability to recommend solution options;
  • Self-motivated, engaged in technology, passionate about new technology;
  • Commitment to continuous process improvements, collaborative team work, and operational excellence;
