Job Description
Eaton’s EPG EAS Electrical Automation Solutions division is currently seeking a Supervisor, Embedded Software - Grid Automation, who is passionate about developing and managing a high performing engineering organization focused on developing best in class software and system solutions that manage our proven smart grid technologies. Eaton is accelerating and leading the industry with its digital offerings to utility customers. This position may be located at our Lévis or Montréal office. Hybrid work options are also available.


In this role, you will manage a software team responsible for the development and evolution of Eaton’s embedded devices and their software tools, which are used by hundreds of utility customers. We strive to deliver dependable, simplified, and best-in-class solutions to help utilities leverage their assets and manage a smarter grid.


What You’ll Do


Essential Responsibilities:


  • Ensure effective cooperation with other divisions and product lines, engineering/Innovation centers, as well as internal and external service providers/partners to meet requirements.
  • Secure compliance with internal and CCoE standards and regulations as well as adherence of engineering processes to ISO 9001.
  • Contribute to the development of project specifications, ensuring their alignment with test specifications and test plans.
  • Align team to consistent SDLC process, tools, and metrics.
  • Managing budgets, project schedules, contracts, training, and staffing needs to support one or more projects of the portfolio.
  • Recruit, lead, manage and mentor an agile global engineering team, including Software Architects, Technical Leads, Developers, and Testers, which designs, implements, tests and supports features of one or more embedded products.
  • Provide input to project planning by estimates of development activities.
  • Collaborate and engage across all software teams and CoEs throughout the Digital Organization to build a culture of code sharing, inner-sourcing, and reusable platform components.
  • Ability to manage geographically dispersed teams
  • Collect data across software projects to effectively communicate viable metrics used to evaluated project statuses, customer defect agility, and on time to release.
  • Management responsibilities include technical facilitation, budget allocation, hiring, one-on-one meetings with directs, performance reviews, career guidance, technical capability assessments, software selection, and interfacing with internal and external partners.


Qualifications


Basic Qualifications:


  • Abreast of upcoming software development/engineering tools, trends, and methodologies
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada without corporate sponsorship
  • At least five years of experience in a manager role leading software teams.
  • Travel: up to 10%
  • Proven experience in resource leadership and task management
  • Proven knowledge of embedded systems, operating systems, real-time multitasking, and communication protocols.
  • No relocation is being provided. Candidates must live within an 80-kilometer radius of the Montréal or Lévis, QC facility.
  • Understanding of object-oriented design and programming skills, including the use of design patterns
  • Strong communication and presentation skills needed, including presentations to C-Suite leaders
  • Working knowledge of integrating with IoT/connected devices
  • 8+ years of experience in software development
  • Work proficiently in French and English. Fluency in French and English is required for this position in order to communicate with colleagues, customers, and partners located inside and outside of Quebec, as well as to understand technical documentation in the field of our industry.
  • At least three years of experience leading offshore software development teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Information Systems


Skills


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working in the electric utility market and/or power system knowledge
  • Experience leading and coaching new and experienced software developers or engineers
  • Proven hands-on experience with C++
  • Prior experience developing software for embedded devices, creating APIs and desktop applications
  • 5+ years of experience in managing engineering or IT organizations
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business
  • PMP certification
  • Experience ensuring cybersecurity practices in embedded software and desktop applications
