Reporting to and in cooperation with the Director, Children and Youth, the Summer Camp Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing all aspects of the summer camp program including fundraising efforts (in cooperation with the Philanthropy and Communications department), preparing reports to funders, coordinating with other staff regarding staff development, and supervising all camp staff.


Responsibilities


  • Work with parents regarding any disciplinary issues with children.
  • Monitor camp budget, time sheets and petty cash vouchers and receipts.
  • Maintain files on each camp participant and staff member.
  • Oversee all day-to-day camp operations and supervise all camp staff.
  • Develop curricula for the 8 week summer camp program including day trips, overnight camping week, weekly themes, in-house activities, rainy day activities, menu for breakfast and snack programs.
  • Document all critical incidents.
  • Complete an end of season assessment of the program and prepare a report that make recommendations for the following year’s program.
  • Maintain appropriate information and statistics and complete all necessary reports to funders.
  • Identify strengths and challenges of program; adjust program as necessary in order to make the program more effective.
  • Provide orientation and training for all camp staff, volunteers and translators including but not limited to issues of child development, child protection, team building, anti-racism/anti-harassment, multi-cultural sensitivity, camp procedures, safety, basic first aid, day-to-day duties, recreation and games.
  • Plan and implement processes for hiring all camp staff.
  • Support the Director of Philanthropy and the Director of Children and Youth in fundraising campaigns and applications for summer camp.


Position Qualifications


  • Fundraising, writing, and public speaking skills.
  • First Aid and CPR training and certificate.
  • Ability to train all camp positions in their work.
  • Previous camp leadership experience.
  • Clear perspective on child development and the needs of children at various ages.
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Screening check with a ‘Clear’ or satisfactory result that meets the operational requirements of the Agency
  • Work towards fulfilling Dixon Hall’s Mission Statement.
  • Strong understanding of policies and legal requirements relating to child protection.
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate ideas and concepts; fluency in additional languages that reflect the diverse community in which the program operates will be considered an asset.
  • Must be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer
  • Previous experience using crisis intervention, conflict resolution and counselling skills.
  • Able to relate well to parents in a community setting.
  • Previous experience supervising a team of camp counsellors.
  • MUST be fully vaccinated (two [2] doses) against COVID-19 with a vaccine that has been approved for use in Canada
  • Basic understanding of PC multimedia programs, video display systems, and their application to public settings.
  • Skills to work sensitively with a wide variety of children from low income, new immigrant settings.
  • E.C.E. and/or Recreation Degree or Diploma.
