Thecreative service armof the business specializes in experiential marketing, website development, video, content solutions and more to provide a one-stop shop for our clients and readers.

The Position

TheSubEditorrole is a freelance/contract role supporting our editorial team from our downtown Toronto workspace (King and Duncan) and remotely. This role suits a technically skilled writer/editorwith incredible attention to detail. You will be responsible foreditingall sections of Foodism and Escapism magazines in accordance with CP Style and our in-house style guide.

TheSubEditorwilledit our print magazines. The timeline of subbing this will be worked out ahead of time with oureditor, but we've found it generally works out to around 30-40 hours per cycle to edit our 96-page magazine.

This is an opportunity suited for a passionate person looking to significantly contribute to the growth of a rapidly expanding publishing company.

Responsibilities

• Supporting our fact checker with verifying information and story details
• Provide editorial guidance and constructive feedback to feature writers
• Proofread and edit each issue of Foodism and Escapism adhering to Canadian Press and style guidelines to correct errors in grammar, spelling, syntax and punctuation
• Ensure content is the right word count and edit where necessary to ensure it fits on the page
• Write and place punny headlines, subheads, photo captions and fact boxes in our tone of voice

Qualifications

• Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
• Proficiency in InDesign is desirable (as you will edit directly in this program), and confidence in navigating programs like Creative Cloud
• Professional degree in Journalism, English, Literature or equivalent
• Interest and knowledge of the local food scene and travel landscape
• Previous experience copyeditinglifestyle content at Canadian brands
• Impeccable spelling, grammar andeditingskills
• Incredible attention to detail
• Strong computer literacy and knowledge of CP Style
• A team player who is flexible and adaptable to changing needs of the editorial team
• Excellent time management and organizational skills
