Job Summary
Provides welding equipment operations for UBC Engineering Design Student Teams in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements. Ensures that welds performed are adequate for the application. Follows all regulatory requirements and rules for use of the welding, cutting and allied equipment. Ensures that facilities where welding is occurring meet the regulatory requirements for welding activities. Procures safety equipment as needed for performing welding tasks according to regulatory requirements. Ensures that adequate maintenance and repairs of equipment being used to provide support welding is carried out as required by regulations. Maintains clean and tidy work spaces.
Auxiliary appointment: hours will fluctuate between 0 to 10 hours/weekly basis. This role is a support role as needed for the UBC Engineering Design Student Teams and does not have a regularly scheduled shift.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Safety and Facilities Officer, Faculty of Applied Science.
Work Performed
Consequences of errors related to use and maintenance of equipment and facilities, supervision and instruction duties could result in injury or
death, damage to public and personal property. Accurate and timely decisions are crucial. The application and performance of welds may be
critical to the safety of equipment, vehicles and other apparatus. This position holds a high level of responsibility for the implementation of
welds and the upkeep and use of the Faculty s facilities.

This position works under the Safety and Facilities Officer, Faculty of Applied Science

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a technical college or institute and a minimum two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Graduation from a technical college or institute. Welding Certificate- Level A, B or C (Foundation) preferred. Ability to operate job-related equipment 2 years relevant experience. Ability to operate job-related equipment Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and instructions. Ability to read and comprehend technical material. Ability to read, interpret, and understand job-related technical drawings. (e.g., blueprints, electrical circuit diagrams, plans, work sketches). Ability to perform minor maintenance and repair on job-related tools, equipment, and machinery. Effective interpersonal and oral communication skills are required. Ability to communicate in a clear, attentive, and polite manner. Well-developed organizational skills and a can-do attitude. Ability to be thorough, accurate, and have a high level of attention to detail. Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
