Job Description
Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our nine Career Centres across the province. Nature and Scope


The incumbent delivers structured academic coaching to SIIT students in coordination with appropriate faculty and assists during consultation hours. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.


General Accountability


Academic Coaching


  • Regular evaluation of the students
  • Participate and/or collaborate with Learning Specialist(s) with facilitating on areas pertaining to both MLA and APA formats and writing essays
  • Comfortable assisting students with varying academic proficiency in a group setting or one -to- one
  • Ensures a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment
  • Collaborate with both Learning Specialist(s) and Instructor(s) in providing assistance to students who may require a more in depth one-to-one support
  • Prepare sessions in conjunction with instructors to ensure students meet academic standards
  • Create and maintain a creative and positive learning environment that provides the opportunity for meaningful learning
  • Participate in classroom initiatives such as but not limited to independent work periods, group work, study sessions and more.
  • Develops and maintains respectful relations through the use of problem solving and constructive resolution of student issues
  • Adhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT's policies and procedures
  • Developing and presenting academic based content to support student success through workshops, presentations and /or lunch and learns and more.
  • Creativity in providing student-focused solutions and strategies
  • Provide assistance to students in all programs within the classroom(s) during subject areas specifically in mathematics and sciences
  • Experience working with mature students in a cross cultural environment


Required Qualifications & Experience: A Bachelor of Education is preferred, with experience working in an educational setting. For success in this position a genuine commitment to help students learn and succeed is required. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset.


Some travel to other locations that provide SIIT programming may be required.
