About The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager within the Endoscopy unit, the Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for all duties associated with the collection and distribution of patient care items and the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilization handling and storage of patient care medical equipment and supplies. All responsibilities are carried out in adherence to professional standards, manufacturers instructions and departmental policies and procedures.

$21.68 - $25.42 Hourly
Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan. (Permanent Long Assignments Only)

About The Opportunity

All responsibilities are carried out in adherence to professional standards, manufacturers instructions and departmental policies and procedures.
About You
- Knowledge of Universal Precautions and Infection Control measures
- Successful candidate is required to take and successfully pass a functional assessment to determine the physical capabilities to do the job
- If no qualified applicants, will consider applicants who are willing to obtain certification within 12 months
- Training and experience in the reprocessing of endoscopes using the Mediavator system, Steris system familiarity an asset
- Formal education in anatomy, medical terminology, microbiology, infection control preferred
- Membership with the Central Service Association of Nova Scotia preferred
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
- Physical Demands: Repetitive bending, repetitive lifting and carrying up to a maximum of 30 pounds, repetitive pushing and pulling carts up to a maximum of 400 pounds. Constant standing and walking. Exposure to chemicals, blood and body fluids and extreme heat and humidity as well as loud noise.
- Successful completion or current enrollment in a Central Service Technical Training Program
- Computer experience
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent communication skills
- Previous experience working in the setting preferred
- Experience operating SPD related equipment
- Ability to problem solve
- Grade XII
- An aptitude for tasks requiring manual dexterity and technical skill
Hours
- A skill test will be included as part of the selection process.
- This opportunity has an anticipated end date of March 31, 2024
- Shifts include days, evenings, nights and weekends (or other specific hours of shifts)
- Full time Long Assignment; 75 hours bi-weekly
- Travel to various sites may be required.
