Public Works, Transportation


Status: Regular Full Time


Salary Range: $86,443 - $108,052 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits, where applicable)

Location: 10 Peel Centre Dr., Brampton, ON


Hours of work: 35 hours per week


The Specialist, Public Programs works collaboratively with both the public and private sectors to improve mobility and establish sustainable transportation options of travel demand, promoting environmental, health and financial gains of using sustainable modes of transportation through the implementation of programs, policies, and processes.


What You Will Do In This Role


  • Key representative in handling the current demands of the group and in Transportation Demand Management
  • Monitors programs, which include data collection on activities of TMAs (Smart Commute Mississauga, Smart Commute Brampton-Caledon, and Smart Commute Pearson Airport Area)
  • Provides direction and allocates work to administrative staff, contract staff, and co-op students
  • Provides expert guidance and advice to management and staff in public-facing related programs in Peel Region
  • Responsible for special type projects that require a high level of staff representation and responsibility
  • Negotiation and estimating legal contracts with Metrolinx TMA annual contracts
  • Participant in the majority of the special type projects, perform mentoring type duties with Sustainable Transportation staff and become a liaison between the group and other teams
  • Update and ongoing development of Community Based Social Marketing program and software
  • Leads projects in conjunction with the Transportation Demand Management and Sustainable Transportation groups (including research and development type, quality control and providing guidance and advice on Regional standards and procedures to NGOs)
  • Independently leads meetings and projects which require politically sensitive matters and have increased financial responsibility
  • Development of Policies and Procedures
  • Updates Legal Agreements (Metrolinx and three TMAs)
  • Update TMA Custom Programs and monitor financial requests


What The Role Requires


  • A minimum of 5 years experience in transportation planning and transportation demand management
  • University degree or diploma in Urban Planning, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Business/Marketing, and/or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in planning, marketing/promotion or environmental studies
  • Experience with project planning, budget preparation and financial management
  • Knowledge and understanding of Provincial, GTHA, Regional and local municipal transportation issues
  • Knowledge in developing, monitoring, and evaluating programs

  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner within a collaborative multidisciplinary team setting

  • Strong written and oral communication, presentation, project management and interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed negotiating, planning and project management skills

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Centre Dr., Brampton, ONworksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.


Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
