CNIB invites you to build a career as unique as you! We are currently searching for a Specialist, Education Advocacy! Reporting to the Project Lead, CNIB Education, the Specialist, Education Advocacy will broaden awareness and reach of the program through advocacy and community engagement and contribute to work with CNIB Voice and management on key advocacy issues involving the education system.
Your impact at CNIB
  • Strengthens and supports the organization's capacity to influence policy makers at the national and provincial level.
  • Ensures that contractual obligations for provincial or other agency-funded projects are met and that program reports as required are prepared and submitted to meet contract deadlines.
  • Develops a strategic approach, framework, and tactical advocacy plan for the organization. This includes leading stakeholder relations in activities such as strategic planning, lobbying activities, relationship building, outreach with public and private entities (including consumer groups).
  • Develops and broadens relationships with government stakeholders and other stakeholders to achieve the organization strategic plan and promote. advocacy opportunities.
  • Acts as a spokesperson for the organization with government stakeholders including Municipal, and Provincial representatives.
  • Effectively engages stakeholders Canada and keeps them informed of the organization's activities, achievements, needs and concerns.
Requirements
Who you are:
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve issues showing good judgment in a timely manner.
  • Proven ability to work with and support volunteers at all levels, including senior leadership volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a changing environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills.
  • Proven relationship building and communication skills.
  • Passion for making our community a better place for people who are blind or partially sighted.
We want to hear from you if you have:
  • Demonstrated ability in developing and implementing effective community-based programs and services.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Sound knowledge of the not-for-profit and community services sectors.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and vision loss is considered an asset.
  • Commitment to and demonstrated success in stakeholder and community relations.
  • Relevant post-secondary education with a minimum of 5 years in a management capacity.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
Work Environment
  • Willingness to work flexible, non-regular hours to accommodate achievement of goals.
  • Willingness to travel across Canada, as required.
