Department Summary


The Inner City Health and Wellness Program (ICHWP) is dedicated to improving health and social outcomes for structurally vulnerable populations, including people who use substances and those experiencing unstable housing or homelessness. ICHWP conducts applied health services and policy research using a variety of methodologies, including patient outcome evaluations, survey studies, chart reviews, process evaluations, focused ethnographies, and policy analysis.


Position Summary


The Senior Program Lead, primarily working under the supervision of Dr. Elaine Hyshka (ICHWP Scientific Director), will implement and manage research projects directly under their coordination. This will include drafting grant proposals, obtaining ethics and operational approvals, developing study protocols, conducting data collection and analysis, preparing scientific reports and manuscripts, preparing knowledge translation materials, and presenting results to diverse audiences.


The Senior Program Lead will also oversee team operations to achieve the mission and values of ICHWP and support the Scientific Director and Associate Scientific Directors. This will include providing supervision to research team members (including research coordinators, research assistants, and students); working with internal and external stakeholders; developing, maintaining, and reporting on research and program budgets; developing and maintaining team protocols and procedures (e.g., data management protocols); providing feedback to other team members on their data analysis, manuscripts, and presentations, and answering any questions as needed; and delegating and prioritizing workflow for team members. Our team is primarily based out of our office at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in central Edmonton


Duties


  • Draft and prepares grant applications, presentations, publications, reports, research documents, literature reviews, communication materials and other program based initiatives
  • Develops and maintains filing system
  • Collaborates with all team members and stakeholders as required, and attends and participates in meetings on behalf of ICHWP
  • Prepares and presents materials required for meeting and conferences (e.g., abstracts, workshops, agendas)
  • Delegate work, set and maintaining deadlines for team outputs, and provide direct supervision
  • Develops research and evaluation protocols, performs data collection, entry and analysis
  • Reports on budgets for research projects
  • Recruit and train new staff and students


Qualifications


  • Experience working with vulnerable populations
  • 1-3 years previous experience with research coordination and project management
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Police information check and vulnerable sector check is required (results will be reviewed on a ‘case by case’ basis and the successful applicant will be reimbursed for this cost)
  • In-depth knowledge of AHS and UofA policies/procedures
  • 3-5 years previous experience with qualitative data collection, analysis, and reporting
