PBSH

Permanent | Full Time

What we do and why we do it:

Abbeydale Place and The Prelude are low-barrier Place Based Supportive Housing (PBSH) programs that provide safe and stable housing to adults with a history of homelessness and a high level of vulnerabilities due to concurrent health disorders. Our philosophy is that everyone is entitled to appropriate housing and the supports they need to sustain that housing.

We deliver our services within an Intensive Case Management model and adhere to the principles of harm reduction, housing first and strength based practice. Abbeydale Place and The Prelude include multi-disciplinary teams that operate with these supports 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our residents range from 23 – 70+ years, with tri-morbidity, polysubstance use, and cognitive barriers to independent housing (such as brain injury, FASD etc.), including individuals who are supported by a Community Treatment Order.

The Program Lead is responsible for the operational success of Abbeydale Place and The Prelude through team management, program development, delivery, quality control and outcome evaluation. The Program Lead oversees two permanent supportive housing and intensive case management programs that provide services to chronically homeless individuals who may experience barriers to housing stability such as physical health issues, mental illness, and active addiction. As a member of the Alex management team in the organization, the Program Lead ensures that the program goals, funder KPI, and objectives are aligned with agency goals and objectives. This is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the Director of Housing.

What you will do:

•Provide overall management, leadership, and direction to The Alex’s Place Based Supportive

Housing programs.

•Ensure operational practices align with program policies, procedures, protocols, relevant accreditation and/or fidelity standards, relevant statutes, and professional and regulatory body standards.

•Develop and/or revise program policies and procedures for approval by Executive Team.

•Develop protocols and standard operating procedures to support safe, efficient program operations.

•Responsible for responding to all serious and/or critical incidents, with the support of Director of Housing and Team Leads. This includes providing emergency on-call supports out of regular business hours in the event of fire, flood, participant death etc.

•Remain abreast of evidence-based and creative practices related to the philosophies of Housing First, Intensive Case Management practices, and Harm Reduction

•Provide direct supervision and mentoring to lead, relief support worker, PBSH Registered Nurse (alongside HF Nursing Lead), and administrative support positions and provide a framework for supervision for other roles.

•Work collaboratively and maintain ongoing communications with Housing First Medical Clinic and multidisciplinary team.

•Develop and maintain partnerships with key program stakeholders and community resources.

•Work collaboratively with Housing First Program Leads for the betterment of Alex housing programs and the benefit of program participants and team members.

•Coach and empower team leaders to maintain positive team management and healthy workplace culture

•Oversee and develop appropriate delegation of data management duties, up to but not limited to, scheduling, recruitment, shifts and coverage.

•Provide support with clinical work and housing interventions as required.

•Ensure program meets funder(s) required key performance indicators and/or outcomes.

•Ensures maintenance of master lease and partnership with landlord and/or property management company (HomeSpace Society)

•Responsible for timely reporting to funder(s) according to requirements contained within funding agreement

•Participate in funding applications, proposals, and reporting as required.

•Promote a culture of evaluation and improvement through evidence-based decision making.

•Perform liaison function with funder(s) on operational and program matters.

•Support annual program budgeting process by analyzing program trends and developing projections for staffing and program costs on a regular basis (monthly, quarterly, and annual).

•Promote an organizational and program culture consistent with Alex values, vision, and mission.

What you bring:

·Master’s degree; or bachelor’s degree with combination of comparable and related experience

·Minimum three years’ experience working with persons experiencing with homelessness, mental health issues, complex health issues, and substance misuse

·Proven leadership and demonstrated skills in supervision, clinical practice, program, and fiscal management

·Excellent communication, organizational, advocacy, teaching and rapport-building skills

·Effective written and verbal skills, including report writing and presentation skills

·Ability to manage competing priorities and establish clear boundaries.

·Solid understanding of housing first, harm reduction principles and evidence-based practices that show positive outcomes with mandated population

·Knowledge of Standards of Accreditation and Community Treatment Orders an asset

·Non-violent crisis intervention is an asset

·Standard First Aid – Level C CPR & AED within 30 days of hire date, certification must be valid for a minimum of 6 months upon hire

·A class 5 non-GDL driver’s license, clean drivers abstract, and a personal vehicle that can be used for work purposes with $2 million in liability coverage are required

·A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance is required

·Knowledge of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRC) 94 Calls to Action is an asset

Working Environment:

·Abbeydale Place and The Prelude are 24/7 residential programs; much of the work will be done on-site

·Standard office hours are 08:30am until 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. Flexibility required to respond to business needs and hours are negotiable.

·1 FTE (37.5 hours/week).

·Continuous extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking

·Frequent climbing/carrying objects up or down stairwells

·Occasional driving as part of work duties

·Occasional physical action which requires the ability to bend/crouch, reach above shoulder height, kneel/crawl, and carry objects (up to and over 20Ibs.) throughout shift. This includes lifting or transferring clients who require assistance supporting themselves.

This position is required to use your own vehicle for work-related use or drive Alex vehicles for work purposes.Where required, candidates must show proof of a class 5 non-GDL driver’s license, a personal vehicle, a clean 5-year drivers abstract, and $2 million liability insurance to meet our insurance providers requirements.
