At Cancer Research UK, we exist to beat cancer.

We are professionals with purpose, beating cancer every day. But we need to go much further and much faster. That's why we're looking for someone talented, someone determined, someone like you.

Cancer Research UK is looking for an experienced Senior Philanthropy Manager with a strong background in trusts and foundations. This role offers a rare opportunity to cultivate and steward relationships with some of CRUK's most generous supporters and prospects, and those who have the capacity to give 6-7 figure gifts.

Alongside this, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply both their strong creative and analytical skills as they develop and implement the strategy for our small trusts and annual donor mailing programme with a view to growing income.

The post holder will also play a key role in driving larger initiatives by supporting the Trusts and Foundations Lead in both contributing to and leading cross-organisation working groups, as we strive to maximise income for CRUK from our supporter base.

What will I be doing?

  • Implement the new Philanthropic Advisor strategy in partnership with colleagues across the organisation, with a particular focus on continuing to steward and grow our pool of wealth managers and donor advised fund managers
  • Work alongside key internal stakeholders to develop compelling and inspiring collateral to share with prospects and donors
  • Lead on the development of strategies for individual institutions and campaign priorities and contribute to cross-org working groups as needed
  • Review our existing small trust and annual donor mailing programme and develop a long-term strategy to grow income from this pool of lower-level supporters.
  • Manage a mixed pipeline of up to 120 trusts and foundations prospect with the aim to secure 6-7 figure gifts. Develop strong cultivation and stewardship strategies to maximise opportunities with prospects and donors in the pipeline
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of the work that CRUK supports, particularly our campaign priorities including Cancer Grand Challenge, the Francis Crick Institute, Translation and Innovation, and our Future Leaders Programme to inform delivery and impact

What skills will I need?

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to work with, and communicate effectively and professionally with, a wide range of individuals from internal colleagues, institutional leaders, and external collaborators, stakeholders, and donors
  • Experience of soliciting gifts from trusts and foundation at a six and seven figure level
  • Dedicated team player with the desire to grow within an organisation
  • Proven experience of building effective long-term relationships with trust and foundations, including transitioning trust prospects through to being committed donors
  • Proven track record of trust and foundation fundraising in the not-for-profit sector, ideally in a medical research environment
  • Highly professional, flexible, and committed to going above and beyond the remit of the role to achieve and exceed targets
  • Exceptional listening skills and efficient and compelling proposal writing style and inspiring and engaging communication style
  • Experience of developing and project managing a mailing programme

What will I gain?

Every one of our employees contributes to our progress and is supporting our work to beat cancer. We think that's impressive.

In return, we make sure you are supported by a generous benefits package, a wide range of career and personal development opportunities and high-quality tools, policies, and processes to enable you to do your job well.

Our benefits package includes a substantial retirement plan, a generous and flexible leave allowance, discounts on anything from travel to technology, gym membership, and much more.

We don't forget people have lives outside of work too and so we actively encourage a flexible working culture.

Our work - from funding cutting-edge research to developing public policy - will change the world. It's exciting to be part of our team.

How do I apply?

We operate an anonymised shortlisting process in our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. CVs are required for all applications; but we won't be able to view them until we invite you for an interview. Instead, we ask you to complete the work history section of the online application form for us to be able to assess you quickly, fairly and objectively.
