Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Their core product mix includes drag chains, sprockets, wear components, and full turnkey conveyor packages. With our head office and production facility in Abbotsford British Columbia, Canada, and warehouse in Stockbridge Georgia, Advanced Material handling is well situated to service the Americas.

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for our Abbotsford location.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Implement career path objectives for mechanical design team and make team stronger.
• Ability to review and identify non-conformance.
• Manage and supervise a team of 5-6 Mechanical Designers.
• Manages costs of design team department to make sure budgets are maintained.
• Ability to reverse engineer customer samples of chain, flights, buckets, and sprockets.
• Ability to prepare and design engineering drawings of Chain & Flight Configs, Sprockets, Shafts, take-ups, conveyors, and Structural Components.
• Ability to prepare and review and approve detailed fabrication drawings, burning patterns, and parts for machining.
• Create and manage a real time design department schedule. That estimates, tracks, and delivers on time drawing packages.
• Accurately prepares and files inspection reports.
• Conduct performance reviews of mechanical design team with HR department.
• Ability to inspect incoming products from vendors, sub-contractors, and distributors.
• Create and manage a system for design department timecard/engineering costing tracking system.
• Create a library / drawing catalog and accurately manages all drawing files using PDM software
• Create and manage department standards, policy, core, processes, and SOP’s.
• Create implement a standard for review, editing, and approval of drawings before they are issued to production.
• Ability to understand the design of a conveyor system and best practices.
• Complete accurate on-site visual inspections and on-site chain surveys when required.
• Create and train the team on standards and report estimated drawing times to the sales department

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Have project management experience.
• Have strong supervisory skills.
• Have registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in British Columbia.
• Have strong knowledge of steel fabrication, machining, and welding processes.
• Have a minimum 5 years of Solid Works Experience.
