As part of our ongoing growth journey, Algo is looking for a positive, self-motivated, and passionate individual to join our team as a Mechanical Design Engineer. We are seeking an individual with a strong desire to work in an exciting, fast-paced, team-based design environment to help us develop, design, and implement new products and optimize existing products for Algo.

The Role – What You Will Do at Algo:

You, in partnership with Algo Mechanical Design Engineers and Algo Engineering Leadership, will serve a lead role in bringing new Algo products to market. You will utilize your mechanical design engineering skills to develop new products and enhance existing designs, leading the development cycle from ideation through prototyping and into production. You will collaborate internally and with external vendors to develop innovative, aesthetic, and functional solutions to enhance the Algo product line. Common projects include the development of new IP endpoints for alerting and notification including IP Speakers, IP LCD Displays and IP Intercoms.

Your Responsibilities:

·Within a collaborative design team, create and modify mechanical models and drawings for new products. Lead the process of development and experimental design including ideation, prototype, testing and final assemblies.

·Design highly aesthetic and robust mechanical enclosures and assemblies to pass various reliability testing: ESD, water ingress (IP), corrosion, thermal cycling, impact/drop.

·Utilize 2D and 3D CAD to communicate design intent, requirements, and inspection processes. Liaise with vendors to optimize aesthetics, cost, and manufacturability.

·Use engineering principles to analyze designs for structural integrity, thermal performance, material performance, manufacturability, and serviceability.

·Produce excellent technical mechanical engineering drawings to industry standards.

·Ensure compliance to industry standards and regulatory requirements for electronic products (CSA, EMC, IEC, etc.).

·Embrace rapid prototyping solutions to accelerate the design process, encouraged to be smart and scrappy and consider new and innovative design processes that accelerate timelines and break down barriers.

·Assist in finding solutions to engineering and production issues as they arise.

·Other miscellaneous duties related to the position and as directed.

Your Qualifications – Who You Are:

·Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3+ years of experience in relevant industry in product design.

·Demonstrated ability to take ownership in projects and steer the design cycle from concept through manufacturing.

·Expertise in design for various manufacturing processes for plastic, metal, and elastomeric parts: sheet metal, injection molding, casting, extruding, machining, and 3D printing.

·Exceptional detailed and pragmatic design sense in creation of CAD models and drawings of electrical enclosures and associated hardware design and placement.

·Proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD) – SolidWorks preferred.

·Microsoft Office (Excel etc.) and ideally understanding of an MRP system.

·Engineering fundamentals and skills: design process, statics, thermal, strength of materials, materials selection, tolerancing, DFX, FEA.

·Comfortable presenting ideas to engineering leadership and working collaboratively to find effective solutions.

·Experience in aesthetic and industrial design, free-form surface modeling – an asset.
