The Opportunity:
WSP is seeking an intermediate - senior Land Use Specialist to join our BC Ecology and Environmental Impact Assessment team on a full-time basis. Our team of social scientists and engagement specialists works in Canada and internationally on environmental and socio-economical impact assessments; policy and program development; social management planning, sustainability initiatives, engagement, social due diligence, and third-party monitoring. A day in the life:
  • Contributing to the business and technical mission of a multi-disciplinary team environment within environmental assessment and related technical discipline groups;
  • Assisting with marketing WSP’s land use assessment services under the direction of senior staff;
  • Conducting land and marine use assessments as part of environmental impact assessments for projects and developments in infrastructure, power and sustainable energy, mining, oil and gas;
  • Technical presentations and publications.
  • Developing land and marine use management planning for projects to meet regulatory and corporate requirements and best practice;
  • Interacting with clients and regulators;
  • Providing technical direction and mentoring to junior staff;
  • Providing support for other WSP services including socio-economic impact assessments and social management plan development;
  • Engaging with Indigenous nations, stakeholders and the public;
  • Data analysis and reporting;
  • Secondary research and primary qualitative and quantitative data collection and field work;
  • Proposal preparation;
What you'll bring to WSP ...
  • Strong field survey skills and experience, including design and implementation of field programs and logistics, equipment usage, and health and safety protocols;
  • Experience in visual quality assessment desirable but not a requirement;
  • Experience working with Indigenous nations;
  • Experience working on multi-disciplinary projects and teams, and environmental impact assessments;
  • Professional designation (e.g., RPP, PAg) considered an asset;
  • Excellent work ethic with strong organization and time management skills;
  • A graduate degree in natural resource management, planning, GIS, geography or other relevant degree with 5 years or more of relevant professional technical experience;
  • Experience in proposal writing;
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong team player - ability to work with all levels of an organization;
  • Available for business travel and extended working hours as may be required;
  • Understanding of federal and provincial/territorial environmental assessment legislation and regulations;
  • Demonstrated project management experience;
