Job Title: Senior Head of Design Engineering


Morson Canada is seeking a Senior Head of Design Engineering for our client based out of their Ottawa, ON location.


Purpose of the position

The Senior Process Engineering will be responsible for leading a multinational integrated detailed design teams in scoping, designing, delivering and maintaining a number of key products to support the growth of Marshall Land Systems within Canada.


Responsibilities:

• Face to face engagement with the customer and other stakeholders to ensure project alignment.

• Lead the designers to ensure they deliver to standards designs

• Provide design customization where required and by exception

• Ensure mechanical and electrical teams are working as an integrated team

• Ensure digital tools used to their maximum to drive efficiency

• Responsible for design engineering budget

• Responsible for the professional development/ career paths of the design engineers within the Business Unit

• To partner with Head of Engineering to ensure standards are understood and implemented efficiently to ensure engineering excellence.

• To partner with the HR to ensure design resource capability is available to meet requirements of the project, and to own and develop future resource requirements are understood based on pipeline and an offload model developed where appropriate

• Working closely with support functions to assist with the resolution of customer complaints, and drive excellence back into the engineering function where required.

• Maintain and implement KPI’s and lessons learnt principle into the program.

• Communicates findings and proposals to upper management.

• Promote and uphold the company values and procedures.

• Promote and adhere to Health, Safety and Environmental best practice.


Tasks:

• Develop strategies and capabilities in line with the guidance from the Engineering Director, to continuously improve engineering process, procedures and decide which features to build based on user and internal stakeholder needs and the company's vision.

• Identify the key features required to achieve the Engineering Roadmap ensuring our products continue to differentiate from our competitors and oversee the implementation of said features into the existing product architectures and technologies in a scalable and maintainable way.

• Work very closely alongside other Senior Engineering leads within the business to ensure alignment of strategy and direction of travel for MLS. They will lead, manage and balance the design engineering team to ensure that products and new features are delivered to technical best practices, meeting the financial commitments of the business whilst at the same time delighting our customers.

• Be a visionary, keeping pace with technological advances, identifying trends and applicable applications to add customer value and create product differentiators.

• Great communicator, able to inspire both our internal and external customers.

• Be intrinsic in helping develop an organisational culture of process engineering & configuration Control excellence and innovation.

• This position is all about recruiting, management, internal communication, and delivery — help to get getting the product out the door, while ensuring the team is hitting their mark, keeping up morale, and looking for continuous improvement across all sectors.

• Conduct Professional Development Reviews and support development of engineers.


Education:

• Engineering degree and/or significant relevant experience in the design, integration, programs and production of products

• Previous experience of process engineering and/or config management desirable


Experience:

• Significant experience in Engineering from concept through to aftermarket/decommissioning

• Configuration Management, Design and Engineering process development and maintenance and continuous improvement implementation

• Demonstrable experience managing individuals and influencing stakeholders throughout a business

• Significant experience in an engineering production environment

Must be eligible to meet the requirements of export control regulations, including the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and Canadian government security requirements
