Here is what you will be doing:

Reporting to the Manager, Practice Level Measurement, within the Health System Performance and Support portfolio, the Senior Analyst is responsible for applying evidence-based analytical techniques to derive measurement recommendations that support a number of health outcomes. The Senior Analyst may from time to time, provide technical and methodological work that support’s Ontario Health’s vast arraying of reporting products.


The Senior Analyst will be a subject matter expert in their assigned areas, responsible for developing analytical methodology using health administrative and clinical data sources, creating internal and external-facing informational products, and deriving actionable insights to support quality improvement and performance management. As part of the role, the Senior Analyst will work in cross-functional teams with stakeholders who have varying technical knowledge to identify analysis requirements, inform data collection, prepare and analyze data, present analysis results and discuss their interpretation and implication. The work will span across various sectors, including primary care, long-term care, and hospital care.


Here is what you will need to be successful:


  • Develops accurate, timely and high-quality and complex analytics products, which may include statistical analysis, performance indicators, reports, and data visualizations; consulting the Senior Methodologist, Manager, and/or other subject matter experts in the organization as needed.
  • Manages indicator measurement methodologies to enable the capture of relevant and meaningful health care system information.
  • Develops relationships with peers and associates across the organization, researchers and representatives of other organizations that measure health system performance to understand health system issues, share information, and resolve issues
  • Maintains evidence and documentation of quality indicators and their technical specifications.
  • Develops and refines expertise on measurement issues and health care data sources within Ontario. This includes performing and synthesizing information from literature reviews, environmental scans and stakeholder consultations.
  • Prepares analysis summaries, including graphs and PowerPoint documents, and assists with the preparation of documents and presentation materials describing analytic methods.
  • Participates in the building and maintenance of measure and indicators that are used and reported within many initiatives including but not limited to: MyPractice, performance management, corporate reporting, public health system reporting, etc.
  • Contributes to analytics and reporting within the Health System Performance and Support portfolio. This includes audit and feedback practice-level report (“MyPractice”), system and sector reports, and supporting performance measurement methodologies to enable the capture of relevant and meaningful health system information.
  • Participates in the review, prioritization and development of indicators.
  • Supports indicator development and sensitivity analyses using large health care administrative datasets.
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of reported data, figures, and tables through data and analysis quality assurance process and fact checking activities.
  • Supports coordination across teams, documentation of standard operating procedures, risk identification and mitigation to ensure online reporting products are released in a timely manner with accurate data.


Education and Experience


  • Undergraduate degree in Statistics, Health Informatics, Heath Policy, the social or health sciences, or another relevant discipline, and at least 4 years of relevant work experience
  • Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Statistics, Biostatistics, Public Health, Health Informatics, the social or health sciences or another relevant discipline, and at least 2 year of relevant work experience OR


Knowledge and Skills


  • Experience with SAS Macros is required.
  • High energy – capacity to work effectively in a rapid pace work environment.
  • Experience with Excel VBA, SQL, R or Python an asset.
  • Attention to detail – to ensure accuracy and avoid gaffes.
  • Team player – is flexible and enjoys working in a small team environment.
  • Confident Speaker – keen, professional ability to present recommendations and seek input on critical health system needs with leadership, clinical experts and system partners.
  • Professionalism and reliability – ability to complete tasks, as assigned, in a timely manner with high quality results.
  • Creativity – a novel thinker who enjoys generating and exploring innovative ideas and solutions.
  • Experience coding in programming/statistical languages of SAS required.
  • Initiative and independence – Ability to work autonomously to determine work objectives and can work in a self-directed manner as defined within the overall context of the project plan.
  • Objectivity, integrity – the ability to seek and weigh opinions and evidence – compromising where necessary on ways and means but not on principles or goals.
  • Diplomacy and tact – the ability to deal effectively with colleagues, stakeholders and the public from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
