Senior Accounting Clerk


Department: Finance


Overview


Provide general accounting functions including data entry, Analytical work and process improvement as well as assistance with capacity development for Finance staff.


Duties


  • Significant use of memory and researching information;
  • Other related duties as required by the Finance Manager.
  • General accounting including month end and annual procedures;
  • Analysis of Program Area financial information - example -variance analysis;
  • Perform weekly bank reconciliations;
  • Assist with developing procedures in relation to financial transactions;
  • Ensuring accuracy and compliance to accounting standards, procedures and internal controls;
  • Assist in financial capacity development of the Finance Department employees and Program Managers;
  • To follow the HNC personnel policy and manual;
  • Review of agreements for program areas to ensure compliance;
  • Critical thinking, paying attention to details;
  • Provide financial support to Program Area managers;
  • Recommending and implementing improvements to accounting systems and management practices;
  • Computer use, Continuous learning;
  • Reconcile GL accounts;
  • Provide backup, as needed, for the Finance Department for Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Payroll;
  • Processing payments;
  • Problem solving and decision making;
  • Recording and tracking of expenses and revenue;


Qualifications
  • Experience working with First Nations financial administration an asset;
  • Experience working in non-profit or fund accounting an asset;
  • Must possess a valid BC Drivers license;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • Business Diploma;
  • Must be willing and able to pass a criminal record check
  • Experience with Excel, Word and accounting software - Adagio and PayDirt an asset;
