Senior Accountant II
As the Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting duties related to month-end closing, managing accounts payable and receivable, preparing financial statements, investment and intercompany reconciliations, loan amortization schedules, and year-end audit assistance. You will ensure accuracy and completeness of financial statements and accounting records in accordance with the ASPE and/or IFRS and company policies. Additionally, you will be responsible for assisting with other entities within the group and any ad-hoc projects as requested.
This position demands a high degree of organization and attention to detail as it involves multiple tight deadlines. In addition, it is important to protect and maintain confidentiality of all financial and operational information.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare working papers, reconciliations, and schedules for year-end audits ensuring deliverables are completed in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and file monthly GST returns for multiple entities.
  • Manage and reconcile intercompany interest and transactions ensuring timely and accurate recording and reporting.
  • Assist with other entities within the group as needed.
  • Continuously review and improve accounting processes and procedures to ensure compliance with ASPE/IFRS and company policies.
  • Perform month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing activities including reconciliations, journal entry postings, accruals, and preparation of financial statements.
  • Manage and reconcile investment schedules in multiple currencies ensuring accurate recording of dividends, interest, and capital gains/losses.
  • Provide support for any ad-hoc projects as requested by management.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure proper accounting treatment and reporting of transactions including review of outstanding related party balances.
  • Provide guidance and training to junior accounting staff as needed.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring timely and accurate recording and reporting of transactions.
  • Reconcile and post monthly statements for multiple properties from the property manager.
  • Develop and maintain loan amortization schedules and maintaining summary of any intercompany loans and their terms.
Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of ASPE/IFRS and financial reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting software (PeopleSoft, D365, Yardi).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting in a large organization, including managing accounts payable and receivable, preparing financial statements, and preparing working papers, reconciliations, and schedules for year-end audits.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance.
