Job Description
Your Opportunity:


The Public Health Evidence and Innovation team within Provincial Population and Public Health (PPPH) at AHS is seeking a temporary full time Research Officer II to be a key team member in reaching its cancer prevention and screening goals and objectives. Our goal is to reduce new cancer cases, detect cancer at earlier stages (when improved outcomes are more likely), and decrease unjust and avoidable difference in cancer risk. Our purpose is to collaborate with health system and community partners to translate new knowledge into innovative, scalable cancer prevention and screening interventions to reduce modifiable cancer risk factors in defined populations, including those with high need, and ensure proven strategies are transitioned to sustained province-wide initiatives. Our work takes a settings-based approach and is structured around improving key environments that shape the health of individuals and families in Alberta, namely communities, workplaces, health services, and virtual. To accomplish these goals our strategic objectives are: (1) delivery of a visionary, engaging strategy that takes a settings-based approach to addressing social determinants and enhancing prevention and screening; (2) implementation of innovative, scalable initiatives that reduce the risk of cancer and chronic disease while promoting the health of people living in Alberta more broadly and reducing unjust and avoidable differences in health outcomes; (3) alignment with stakeholders and sharing information and findings effectively to support the transition of successful projects into sustainable operations, and (4) efficient conversion of resources to results. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of evaluators, researchers and practitioners who are committed to making a difference in cancer prevention and screening in Alberta.


Description:


As a Research II, you will be responsible for coordinating research activities which generate and disseminate new knowledge that assists with advancing the understanding of health disciplines and various health and medical concerns. Working with the principal investigator, you will assist with the study design and development of research protocols, determine appropriate data collection methods and measurement procedures, interpret results, develop recommendations and coordinate study approvals. You will also contribute to grant submissions and budgeting, conduct literature reviews and environmental scans and provide day-to-day oversight of research studies/projects.

Required Qualifications:


Masters degree in a health or science related field. Registration with applicable professional association or college where required.


Additional Required Qualifications:


Minimum of 3 years of research/evaluation experience in a university/hospital-based setting. Advanced experience in designing survey tools, conducting interviews and focus groups, conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis, and report writing. Established experience in leading a variety of stakeholders both internal and external to solve problems and innovate services. Ability to work independently and cohesively as part of a virtual/hybrid teams. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Visio, Teams) and Zoom. A demonstrated dedication to personal & professional self-development and the ability to be creative, flexible, self-directed, and dependable. Completion of a master's degree in a health-related field (e.g., clinical epidemiology, public health, or psychology).


Preferred Qualifications:


Proficiency in SPSS, STATA, nVivo. Self-directed with strong analytical skills, attention to detail, with an ability to handle multiple assignments. Knowledge of cancer prevention and modifiable risk factors. Knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention, public health theories, and best practice evidence related to cancer prevention. Training and or experience in quality improvement.
