Title of project: Digital traceability for more transparent and inclusive agri-food trade: a practical implementation guide for government traceability and transparency platforms

Comparison of global public digital agri-food traceability systems


Position: Reseach Assistant (RA) - Digital Agri-Food Traceability Expert

Duration: Ends September 2023.

Location: Remote.

The Agri-Food Analytics Lab at Dalhousie University is seeking a highly qualified and experienced RA to contribute to a study on digital traceability in the agri-food sector. The consultant will be responsible for preparing an overview chapter for a report, focusing on the comparison of global public digital agri-food traceability systems and their building blocks.


Responsibilities:

  • Investigate the regulatory framework governing the establishment of these systems
  • Examine the scope of products and commodities covered by digital traceability systems
  • Conduct a comparative analysis of digital agri-food traceability systems in OECD countries
  • Assess the types of identifiers used for tracking products
  • Evaluate the clarity of authority responsible for digital traceability regulation and implementation
  • Explore the mandatory and voluntary aspects of participation in these systems
  • Assess the availability, maturity, and interoperability of electronic databases used for traceability purposes


Deliverables:

  • Prepare an overview chapter for the report (approximately 30 pages)
  • Develop an Excel database with the findings for countries included in the analysis


Qualifications:

  • Excellent written communication skills in English
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the field of agri-food traceability and transparency systems
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting diagnostic analyses of agri-food traceability and transparency systems
  • Experience in designing and/or implementing data platforms and digital services for agri-food traceability and transparency is a plus
  • Advanced degree in Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine, Food Safety, Computer Science, Economics, or related field
  • Extensive knowledge of the agri-food traceability and transparency systems in at least one OECD country, including the digitalization process
