Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. Our Rail Business Strategy & Operations Control is seeking a Rail Data Analyst to provide expertise in and coordinate the development and implementation of data management strategies and data collection systems for Rail Services. Identify, analyze and interpret data trends/issues and make recommendations for improvements.
What will I be doing?

• Identifies, analyses, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets using Data Definition Language or Data Manipulation Language commands for data gathering and analysis activities; produces reports and dashboards that identify issues, provide insight into results and outline recommendations for process improvements to resolve operational, business and system issues.
• Undertake data assurance activities, identifying, investigating and reporting shortfalls in data and data quality and working with data providers and stakeholders to implement remediation activities
• Presents data in dashboards, charts, graphs and/or tables by building, designing and maintaining online applications such as data input/data collection to capture and present reporting, analysis for use by management, internal stakeholders in identifying and implementing process improvements.
• Provides subject matter expertise to internal stakeholders and business units to provide technical advice, assist with data interpretation, needs analysis and provide insight and commentary for decision making purposes.
• Develops and implements data management strategies and performs data collection including the design and development of relational databases for information management and retrieval that optimize statistical efficiency, data quality and supports evidence-based decision making.
• Contributes to the identification and development of new process improvement opportunities for operational, business and systems activities through the development and implementation of data management and collection strategies as well as the analysis of data to support process improvements and evidence-based decision making.
• Develops and maintains comprehensive data dictionaries, data sets and maintains up to date knowledge of internal data sources relevant to Rail processes and systems

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

• Infor EAM experience is highly desirable; Transit or transportation industry experience is preferred.
• University degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or a related discipline, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
• Knowledge of relational database concepts, database management software and tools and computer applications including MS Office Excel (Pivot tables, Power Pivot, formulas, VBA) and Power BI.
• Minimum four (4) years’ experience in a Data Analyst or similar role, with a background in technology, information management, database design and development, business intelligence, data mining or statistics.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with strict attention to detail and accuracy.
