Overview
The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics.
In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Project Manager Supervisor for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. The position is reporting to the Sr. Dean for Finance and Administration, School of Environmental and Biological Sciences (School/ SEBS ) and the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station ( NJAES ), the Project Manager Supervisor is responsible for all facilities at a local level including major and minor capital, maintenance and renovation projects for the School and NJAES and its outlying stations and farms. The position works closely with the academic, research, and administrative leadership to assure that SEBS and NJAES facilities, infrastructure, and grounds are maintained, repaired and renovated as needed so that they reflect our mission and facilitate programs and experience-based education opportunities.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
  • Responsible for development and oversight of SEB / NJAES policies pertaining to facilities management.
  • Ensures facilities projects are consistent with SEBS and NJAES strategic goals and achieves end-user satisfaction.
  • Acts on behalf of the School/ NJAES with the University Institutional Operations and Planning (IP&O), and other institutional offices with regard to existing and planned future research and instructional space.
  • Works well with Rutgers administration, SEBS / NJAES leadership, external vendors, Rutgers Services, and faculty to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner.
  • Tracks space inventory, capacity, and utilization and works closely with the Sr. Associate Dean for Finance and Administration in keeping this information current.
  • Reviews requested and approved facility modifications, assesses and plans deferred maintenance projects and future needs, identifies vendors, and oversees emergency management functions in coordination with the Sr. Associate Dean for Finance and Administration to ensure sufficient funding is available.
  • Acts as a liaison between the Dean’s Office and the various academic departments and the research stations within the School/ NJAES , both on campus and off-campus, on specific infrastructure projects to address operational needs.

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree preferably in Project Management, Civil Engineering or related field, plus a minimum of five years’ experience in project management, facility and grounds operations and management, contract administration, or property management required.

  • Must be able to reliably work independently with little supervision. Must be able to demonstrate a positive attitude and work with others in harmony.
  • Outstanding customer service and leadership skills. Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and adapt to shifting priorities. Ability to interface with all levels of management.
  • Vendor management experience required, including purchasing, contracting, and maintaining relationships and communication with multiple vendors simultaneously.
  • Must have some experience with OSHA or other safety/regulatory standards.
Preferred Qualifications
  • May be required to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Adobe suite of products including Illustrator, Photoshop, project/work order management software.
  • Experience in a higher education setting or government agency.
  • Familiarity with Architectural Desktop (AutoCAD) and the University space management software a plus.
