Job purpose
World Vision Canadas’ (WVC) Impact Hub is responsible for the end-to-end value delivery of how WVC becomes the leader in efficient and effective impact delivery (Impact Value Stream). World Vision Canada is looking for a highly innovative individual with strong business acumen and an entrepreneurial drive for the position of Product Owner, Impact. Following a disciplined Agile Scrum approach, the Product Owner will be a part of the dedicated agile team(s) focused on equipping World Vision Canada to be Impact-Driven with evolved impact measurement and evaluation capabilities and practices through rapid test and learn cycles obsessed with delivering stakeholder value and driving increased trust and accountability rankings.

Reporting to the Senior Product Manager, Impact, the Product Owner is a key member of the Agile Scrum team that is responsible for both defining and prioritizing the team backlog in the execution of the solution roadmap so that the solution(s) meet organizational priorities and deliver stakeholder value. S/he responsibilities include defining the features of the new/modified offering, prioritizing such features, adjusting the features and priorities as needed after each sprint/iteration, accepting or rejecting work results, and keeping stakeholders informed on status as well as gain their feedback.
Duties And Responsibilities
Ensure team priority backlog and strategic effectiveness
  • Provide vision to the Agile Scrum team members throughout projects and planning cycles.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Product Manager, define the roadmap, growth opportunities, and key metrics based on delivering organizational value.
  • Actively participate in agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily scrum meetings, sprint review and retrospectives, sprint demos, and lead the planning release for output delivery.
  • Prioritize needs between scope, budget, and time – weighing priorities according to supporter value.
  • Drive innovation by translating thoughts and ideas into tangible requirements in the form of features, epics, capabilities, enablers, and user stories.
  • Understand the vision and evaluate various approaches to implement effective solutions.
  • Organize backlog prioritization to deliver epics, capabilities, features, enablers, and stories with the highest business value and eliminate or renegotiate the scope of stories that do not align with the defined purpose of the Agile Scrum team.
  • Ensure the Agile Scrum team has an adequate amount of clearly defined and refined stories in the team backlog to work on.
  • Can deep dive into the details while maintaining the roll up to 360-degree view.
  • Play an active role working with the Scrum Master in mitigating, documenting, and removing impediments impacting completion of sprint goals and objectives.
Act as primary interface with the organization for their domain
  • Set and manage expectations of stakeholders for the delivery of new outputs, proactively identifying and communicating barriers to delivery and negotiating timeline, scope, resources, and budget as required.
  • Work cross-functionally with stakeholders, Centres of Excellence (CoEs) and peer agile teams to identify user needs, determine business value, detail user stories for prioritization in team backlog, and manage output delivery.
  • Represent the Scrum team in planning for cross-functional activities across areas of the organization including Supporter-Centric Marketing, Programs & Policy, Digital & IT, Campaigns, Digital Marketing, Philanthropy, Offering Fulfilment, and Channel Management.
  • Work with inputs from business owners/CoEs to create and present Governance Briefs/Business Cases.
  • Collaborates with other product owners, product managers, business owners, and other stakeholders to drive product strategy, design, innovation, and overall product direction.
  • Work with the team Marketer/Business Analyst to effectively develop and deliver briefs to Centres of Excellence (CoEs) when resources or skill set is unavailable within the team.
  • Model and embrace a non-hierarchical approach, demonstrating transparency and trust across the organization.
Ensure best in class in the assigned domain (Impact)
  • Keep up to date with Agile/Scrum best practices and trends.
  • Keep up to date with changes to market conditions, competition, and industry trends.
Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written.

  • Embraces a non-hierarchical approach, modeling transparency, collaboration, and trust across the team.

  • Experience in a start-up or agile environment.
  • Highly collaborative and comfortable with both high-level planning and tactical execution.
  • Experience creating detailed business cases to equip senior leadership with decision-making.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in product, analytics, marketing, fundraising, or technology.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills to realize maximum value.
  • University degree in analytics, business, marketing, science, strategy, or a similar discipline.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to handle criticisms and/or justify decisions.Expects major objections.Has experience navigating through conflicting priorities, turning ambiguity into clarity in a fast-changing environment.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to provide solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Strong ability to manage financials and strategic execution (budgets, ROIs, resource allocation, and multiple concurrent projects).
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions especially when needing to make trade-offs.
  • Able to excel in a dynamic environment while managing several projects simultaneously.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
