The Position:


Pauktuutit, as the national voice of Inuit women in Canada, has a key role to play in ensuring a gender-based lens in policies impacting Inuit women and gender-diverse individuals, and in promoting greater progress in priority areas for Inuit women and children, across health and well-being, violence, safety and abuse prevention, and socio-economic development. Our ability to do so depends heavily on partnerships across government departments, key funders, Inuit community groups, and other stakeholder organizations.


We are seeking a skilled individual to fill the role of Policy and Research Analyst with a focus on Socio-economic development to help us immediately with projects related to housing and shelters. Under the direction of the Manager, the Policy and Research Analyst supports the development and implementation of Pauktuutit’s strategic policy priorities, research priorities, and initiatives to advance socio-economic equity for Inuit women.


An excellent communicator with an analytical mind, the Policy and Research Analyst will be responsible for supporting advocacy priorities and activities that ensure all policy and programming consider, model, and actively promote cultural and gender equality at the core. This may include undertaking research, project management and/or reviewing background information to ensure that the strategy and related actions consider best practices integrating cultural and gender equality with program and governance reform work. The strategy may involve the formulation of procedural recommendations including needs assessments, policy analysis, planning, and response.


Responsibilities will include:


  • Assist with planning and/or facilitating workshops, and meetings; workplan logistics/travel, etc.; travel to meetings or conferences when required
  • Enhance and formalize socio-economic development activities to stimulate socio-economic development for Inuit women
  • Provide leadership, cultural and gendered tools to assist in helping Inuit women with distinct needs in the areas of housing security such as, but not limited to, people dealing with trauma or family violence including persons with disabilities
  • Develop, build, and maintain partnerships and linkages with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide reports to the Board of Directors, Advisory Committee(s), and others as required
  • Contribute to the reporting activities for funding partners and agreements as necessary
  • Contribute to the policies, programs, and services related—but not limited to—housing, shelters and transitional homes
  • Contribute to the development policies tools, education materials, and advocacy initiatives that help Inuit women, especially in the areas of housing and shelters
  • Assist with the development of meeting materials such as agendas, speaking notes and briefing materials, and related matters


Qualifications


Required Qualifications:

  • Exceptional communication skills – verbal and written, to prepare and present complex research analyses, evidence-based decision-making results, policy reports, speeches, and briefing notes
  • Collaborator, focused on mobilizing and leveraging capacities and interests toward project outcomes
  • Knowledge of Inuit culture and socio-economic conditions within Inuit Nunangat and for urban Inuit are highly desirable
  • Minimum of five years experience working within an organization focused on advocating, developing policy or programs focused on enabling women and/or Inuit
  • Knowledge of current political and health, violence and abuse prevention, and socioeconomic issues of Inuit is highly desirable
  • Two or more years of experience working with federal, provincial, territorial, northern, urban government officials, and funding organizations
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of products is essential
  • Knowledge and experience with project management
  • Knowledge of government systems with regards to funding, grants, and contributions
  • Spoken and written Inuktut language is desirable. French is an asset
  • Post-Secondary Degree in community development, sociology, gender studies, or other relevant subject or equivalent combination of education and experience working on issues impacting Inuit
  • Experience in conducting research, analyzing information, and policy experience related to matters of priority for Inuit
  • Experience in community-based research, advisory committees, and understanding of government policy matters for Inuit
  • Knowledge of capacity-building practices and concepts
  • Experience with strategic and operational planning and evaluation
