Position: Planner – Land Use Policy Focus

Reporting to: Manager of Planning Policy & Director of Community Planning
Union affiliation: Non-Union
Wage range: $43.47/hr - $54.34/hr ($79,115.40-$98,898.80 annually)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The focus of this position is land use policy development, which will involve conducting and/or assisting with policy research and development; special projects; analysing planning related information and data (both spatial – GIS and non-spatial); report writing and public consultation pertaining to the County’s long range planning program. This position may also assist with development review, as required. This may involve reviewing and processing planning applications made under the Planning Act; preparing and presenting planning reports and recommendations to County and/or Area Municipal Councils; acting as liaison between the County and Area Municipalities with respect to Provincial and County land use policies, goals and objectives; and responding to development inquiries and conducting pre-consultations for all manner of planning applications.
 QUALIFICATIONS:
University degree in Land Use Planning, Geography or a combination of related education and experience.
Registered Professional Planner with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and full Canadian Institute of Planning membership is preferred.
Minimum 3 years’ experience within a municipal planning environment.
Highly developed research and analytical skills and report writing capability; experience in environmental planning would be an asset.
Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills.
Demonstrated exposure to Ontario Municipal Board policies, practices, and decisions.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment and independently.
Ability to interact harmoniously and diplomatically with the public, development industry representatives and elected officials.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and internet software as well as basic Geographic Information System software or applications.
Valid Ontario driver’s license required and the ability to travel as required to fulfil job responsibilities.
