- 2 to 4 years’ experience in planning, ship design, shipbuilding or related trade experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in a technical field of study is preferred. Trades Certificate combined with sufficient employment experience may be considered. High School diploma is the minimum requirement.
- Ability to make process improvements within planning.
- Committed to a high standard of safety and able to comply with all Seaspan safety policies and rules.
- Demonstrated desire to create relationships that foster trust and loyalty.
- Demonstrated initiative, creativity and integrity.
- Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to maintain organization in a changing environment and under pressure.
- Extensive knowledge of shipbuilding operations with a detailed understanding of the relationship between procurement, design, production and test operations.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
- Proficiency working with CAD/CAM software suite including Ship Constructor (preferred) and AutoCAD.
- Understanding of how an ERP system works and supports a large manufacturing facility.
- Strong judgement, reasoning, and critical thinking skills as well as tact and diplomacy.
- Proficiency working with independent planning systems including Primavera P6 (preferred) and Microsoft Project.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Excellent attitude and demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of shipbuilding operations with an detailed understanding of the relationship between planning, procurement, design and production.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to work independently to develop solutions to complex technical problems.
- Established working relationships with Area/Trade Management, Engineering, Design, Procurement, Quality, Design Build, Master Scheduling, Program Controls and Estimating.
- Demonstrated customer service focus.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office software suite (Project, Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to mentor other planners in their technical growth.
- Monitors industry and supplier developments to identify and transfer to VSY industry best practice.
- Plans and performs pre-production process analysis to develop, implement, and refine new and existing production processes.
- Builds team capability by training and developing others in order to ensure future team effectiveness.
- Provides mentoring and technical guidance to subordinate engineers in Process Engineering and/or related departments.
- A Planner II in Design Build is responsible for process engineering on new construction projects at Vancouver Shipyards. Under the direction of the Manager, Design Build Engineering, the Planner II participates in all phases of new construction design projects from a Process Engineering perspective to improve productivity and remove waste including the development of assigned analysis and projects in the areas of ship design and shipbuilding, production engineering, build strategy development, pre-production process development.
- Plans and performs analysis in support of program pre-production strategy development including: Engineering and Procurement Strategy and Schedules, Pre-Production Process, PBOM creation and associated tasks and activities and supports development of ship construction schedules.
