Health Services – Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention


Status (1) Contract Full Time; 13 months


Salary Range $73,482 - $91,853 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits)

Location 7120 Hurontario street, Mississauga, ON


Hours of work 35 hour/week


Reporting to the Supervisor, Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention, the Planner (Health) will provide the health department with expertise to implement the Regional Official Plan and to integrate health-based rationale into development applications, planning decisions and review and comment on standard forms of development applications that may impact on the health of the population of the Region of Peel.


What you will do in this role


  • Attend and participate in area municipal planning initiatives, and corporate initiatives
  • Conduct site inspections of development properties or areas
  • Reviews and coordinates with other planners on the team to consolidate Regional recommendations on various development applications including Official Plan, Secondary Plans and Amendments, re-zonings, site plans, plans of subdivision and condominium to the approval authority regarding development applications including the preparation of reports to General Committee and Council as necessary
  • Respond to inquiries from area municipalities and other public agencies, developers, consultants, lawyers and the general public to give advice on the planning process and approvals
  • Participate in special projects related to monitoring and improving processes, providing advice and service to Regional departments as planning consultant on regionally initiated development submissions
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings with staff from area municipalities, the Province and other review agencies, developers and consultants to represent Regional interests and mediate settlement of issues relating to development approvals
  • Protects Public Health, Regional and Provincial interest in the consideration of Official Plan amendments and other applications including plans of subdivision, condominium, re-zonings and site plans
  • Maintains good working relationships with Planning Departments of local area municipalities
  • Provides factual evidence at OLT hearings as required. Serve as expert witness in administrative tribunals
  • Comments on Completed Health Assessments
  • Works in collaboration with planners and other professionals from other Regional departments, area municipalities within and outside the Peel Region and other review agencies
  • Attends and participates in local and regional public meetings, area municipal planning initiatives, and corporate initiatives


What the role requires


  • Recognized as a Registered Professional Planner by the Province of Ontario
  • Honours degree in planning, and knowledge in the planning field, such as environmental, resources, urban or rural, and/or land use planning.
  • Full Membership in Ontario Professional Planners Institute/Canadian Institute of Canada
  • Minimum of three years of related planning experience


Skills/Abilities


  • Ability to successfully manage issues with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including making presentations to Council, Staff or Public

Work Mode & Job Location


In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 7120 Hurontario street, Mississauga, ON worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
