Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Petroleum Engineering New Grad (full-time) located in Whitecourt, Alberta until Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).


This New Grad opportunity has a targeted start date of January or May 2024.


Petroleum Engineers within Chevron are part of multi-disciplinary teams which vary in make-up but can include petroleum engineers, geologists, geophysicists, facility engineers, drilling and completion engineers, data scientists, and / or software developers. Petroleum engineers develop technical skills in production and reservoir engineering assignments focused on asset development planning, production operations, reserves, uncertainty and risk management, and capital project development. In addition, there is a focus on building capabilities in Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), geothermal, and hydrogen.


Entry-level Petroleum Engineers are assigned to positions and projects that contribute value to Chevron based on degree, relevant academic preparation, previous work experience, and career objectives. They will be provided guidance by a supervisor and a technical mentor.


For recent graduates, Chevron has a competency-based employee development program that typically includes two to three technical assignments in the first 5 years of their career. This is supported by comprehensive technical training and mentoring combined with on-the-job experience.


As a Petroleum Engineer, you could begin your career in Chevron’s Canada’s domestic upstream operations supporting the Kaybob Duvernay unconventional field operations, spending your first 5-10 years in a combination of production and reservoir engineering assignments. You will be tasked to solve technically challenging problems with the opportunity to utilize cutting edge digital technologies and techniques. Opportunities to transfer to overseas locations may become possible after ten or more years of experience. Other opportunities for petroleum engineers include asset team leadership, business planning and analysis, non-operated joint venture asset management, operations supervision, portfolio development, and project management.


Required Qualifications


  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Students completing the last year of their Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related disciplines with less than two years of directly related work experience.
  • Strong academic performance in core programs, communication, leadership, teamwork.
  • This position may require driving on a routine basis.
  • Professional/academic focus in a technical area aligned with Chevron’s business needs.
  • Problem-solving skills, analytics, and exposure to coding & data science concepts.


Preferred Qualifications (Chevron Technology Center)


  • Previous experience in an integrated oil or international service company intern program.
  • Participation in an industry or energy company university research project.
  • Experience in research, technology development or consulting.
