Pathologist Assistant Jobs

The Pathologist Assistant performs gross description and dissection of routine and complex surgical specimens and refer to Pathologists as required.

Major Functions And Responsibilities

• Alert Pathologists to unique, interesting or concerning cases with potential to compromise accurate and timely diagnosis
• Participate in providing educational inservices to AP Department Laboratory staff
• Consult with Pathologists and Grossing Director as required
• Participate in Pathologists continuing education Rounds.
• Selection of blocks for hormone receptors, tumor markers, clinical trials, etc.
• Oversee the receipt and documentation of specimens and assist Laboratory staff with troubleshooting and problem solving collection, receipt and gross dissection problems.
• In conjunction with the Anatomical pathology management team, participate in annual competency assessment of histotechnician
• Gross description and dissection of complex surgical specimens as well as routine specimens.
• Perform recut wet on request

Required Skills

• Ability to use a microscope
• Excellent organizational skills
• Intermediate computer skills
• Significant experience and knowledge of Human Anatomy, Advanced Medical terminology, Mechanisms of Disease, Clinical and General Pathology, Pathology, Histology, Embryology, Histotechnology, Immunohistochemistry and Laboratory Safety.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Collaborative approach to working with a team of professional and technical colleagues

Experience

Required Experience

• 7 – 10 years grossing experience with a particular emphasis on malignancies
• Working knowledge of CAP, CPSA, organizational policies, procedures and guidelines

Minimum Qualifications

• Master of Health Science or related degree
• Member of CAP (Canadian Association of Pathologists)
• CCCPA certification
