Job Description
Job Title
Operations Supervisor

This position is responsible for the supervision and direction of all shift production employees, and ensures that production meets and exceeds efficiency and company standards.
Essential Job Functions
  • Coordinates production start ups, shut downs, and change overs
  • Responsible for products manufactured; production planning; and scheduling of people and resources
  • Assigns duties and tasks for production associates to maximize productivity
  • Ensures safety procedures are being followed and practiced at all times
  • Provides guidance and on the job training to production workers
  • Defines problems and seeks out appropriate help for resolution
  • Develops and recommends improvements of facilities, equipment, or procedures to improve safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Manages processes and material flow, space management, and works with Engineering to maximize utilization of space designated for specific operations area
  • Orders all routine production, housekeeping, safety supplies and personal protective equipment
  • Handles production problems as necessary
  • Establishes and supports a work environment of continual improvement that supports the company’s policies, systems and the appropriate regulations for the area
  • Performs other duties assigned by management that fall within the generally expected scope of this position
  • Works with EH&S to identify significant environmental impacts of plant operations and to establish goals and targets around significant environmental impacts
  • Ensures employees are trained to do their work and their training is documented
  • Assists with administering operational and capital budgets
  • Participates in problem solving to identify, brainstorm, recommend, and implement corrective action to improve plant productivity and efficiency
  • Reviews and approves time sheets of employees and other personnel related duties
  • Builds Quality into all aspects of work by maintaining compliance to all quality requirements
  • Abides by all safety procedures and practices applicable to location and position; participates in appropriate safety training; demonstrates commitment to and support of EH&S principles and values; champions safety as necessary
Experience Requirement
  • Basic mathematical skills and recordkeeping skills
  • Minimum 5 years plant experience especially in chemical industry
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Forklift Certification/ability to obtain
  • Customer service focus; ability to deal with diverse personalities; negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Good computer skills, including ability to easily use MS Office suite; various email, internet, intranet, and other programs
  • Good time management skills and the ability to prioritize projects and process multiple tasks as required
  • Requires the ability to make immediate decisions
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Excellent English communications skills, oral and written; ability to successfully handle social as well as business interactions with all levels of customers’ personnel; diplomacy skills

Work Environment
This position requires an employee to be in an office environment as well as exposed to outside elements. Position will involve also working with production team in all areas of production. There will be exposure to various chemicals and compounds, including fumes and smells, some of them hazardous. Employee must be able to wear PPE required by the location. General office noise may be experienced and louder sounds and vibrations when outside. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All environments are safe with appropriate PPE.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, sit, speak and hear. The employee is required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; the employee may be required, on occasion, to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
