Your Opportunity:


The Red Deer Regional Hospital Operating room is recruiting an energetic Registered OR Technician Nurse in the multi-specialty operating room. There are 9 very busy operating rooms as we are the referring hospital for the Central Zone. As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, the experienced peri-operative Registered OR Technician Nurse (ORT) will be responsible for providing peri-operative patient care in accordance with ORNAC practice standards. The incumbent will demonstrate competence in delivering safe, effective and efficient care in both a scrub and a circulating role as an integral part of the surgical team. The Nurse is responsible to provide safe care throughout the patient stay in the surgical suite.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:


Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).


Additional Required Qualifications:


Previous OR experience, critical care, acute care and/or maternity experience is required. Ability to perform consistently in a highly organized, rapid moving, complex environment. Ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex integrated team. Must demonstrate advanced communication, problem solving and critical thinking skills. Must exhibit respect, teamwork and team spirit. Ability to wear lead apron protection for an extended period of time must be able to stand for extended periods. Basic computer skills are required. The ability to cope and effectively perform in stressful and/or emergency situations is essential. The position is very physically demanding. Must be able to life/pull/push more than 25 lbs. There is a lot of above shoulder requirement for prepping and positioning of patients. The successful candidate for this position will be required to provide on-call services on a rotational basis.


Preferred Qualifications:


Post Basic Perioperative Nursing course with minimum of 2 years’ current experience in the scrub/ circulatory role within a Surgical suite an asset.
