About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently recruiting for a Control Room Operator to join the team at our Bruderheim Energy Terminal.

Reporting to the Operations Coordinator, the Control Room Operator will support the day-to-day operations to ensure that facility activities are focused on safety, production, compliance etc and are aligned with business needs and priorities.

Responsibilities:

• Participate in the site Health and Safety Program. Report all near misses and incidents. Participate in incident investigations, as required. Enter hazard IDs into Cenovus’ IMS (Integrity Management System) system.
• Participate in the development and review of Safe Operating Procedures. Follows safe operating procedures and ensures environmental impact is minimized
• Directing the troubleshooting of all area-specific equipment and upsets to optimize performance to meet production targets as per Cenovus guidelines
• Direct, co-ordinate and meet with the unit operator for matters relating to the unit operation while providing coaching and mentoring
• Monitor compliance to Alberta Transportation and Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) re: flaring, venting, liquid spills, contraventions, cavern pressures, disposal well pressure, exceeding surface water releasing, etc.
• Remotely operate the start-up, shutdown, and adjust the operatorial parameters within the unit while collaborating with other panel operators, plant operators and maintenance personnel
• Continuously monitor process and plant remotely using a DCS (Distributed Control System) and trending software to ensure the safety of personnel, environment and equipment while promoting its efficient operation
• Complete and interpret area operational records (e.g., process records, bypass authorization requests and shift log entries)
• Respond to emergency condition through process intervention or initiating ESDs. Directing site personnel and initiating muster systems if required
• Create and execute Unit Train load plans. Validate rail car seals and volumes
• Support operations in performing maintenance activities aligned to the site’s operating philosophy. Support on-site maintenance by supplying and monitoring process information required for their tasks while ensuring safety

Qualifications:

• 5+ years industry experience or similar
• Class 5 Driver's license
• 3-5 years working knowledge of Plant and DCS systems
• Follow CAP (Competency Assurance Program) Technical Matrix
• Proficient computer skills – Microsoft Office, Parcview, etc.
• Minimum 4th Class Power Engineering Certification
