Overview


We are seeking a Program Coordinator, Medical Laboratory Assistant for our Laboratory Assistant (MLA) Program.


Reporting to the Manager of Operations, School of Health the Program Coordinator will ensure all MLA program academics and operations are in compliance with policies and procedures and provincial regulations. The Program Coordinator also provides guidance to instructors and students, based on policies and procedures and maintains the smooth running of the Medical Laboratory Assistant Program.


Medical Laboratory Assistants play an essential role in hospitals, private and public health laboratories, clinics, research laboratories, commercial diagnostic supply companies and insurance companies.


The Medical Laboratory Assistant Program is committed to:


  • Preparing graduates to successfully pass the CSMLS Examination
  • Graduating students who are able to pursue a career in the rapidly growing field of Medical Lab Assistants
  • Encouraging graduates to recognize the need for continuing education and professional affiliation
  • Preparing graduates to find successful employment in hospitals, clinics, and private labs
  • Providing a quality Medical Laboratory Assistant program that aligns with the existing Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science(CSMLS) competencies


Duties of the MLA Program Coordinator:


Curriculum Coordination


  • Coordinate the development of program policies and procedures where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance to National Standards in CSMLS framework.
  • Review course outlines with program team members and instructors.
  • Provide leadership in curriculum development and program mapping for the MLA program..


Operational Support


  • Responsible for gathering feedback from stakeholders, documenting, analyzing information and executing plans of actions
  • Respond to student concerns and escalate to the Manager of Operations when needed
  • Keep up to date with the standards for the MLA profession set by the CSMLS and the industry requirements
  • Prepare reports for the accreditation body
  • Coordinate on-going program evaluation; and
  • Participate in program budget and forecast review


Team Facilitation


  • Assist Student Services to identify students at risk and coordinate plans for these students as required; and
  • Coordinate implementation of student success strategies including College and program orientations and Student Handbook.
  • Organize and chair program team meetings;


Internal and External Liaison


  • Act as a consultant for the Admissions and Marketing teams.
  • Work collaboratively with Admissions, and Practicum team staff.
  • Attend Program Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Facilitate an external Advisory Board


Qualifications:


  • Experience with accreditation processes is an asset
  • Education requirements: Medical Lab Technician or Medical Lab Assistant
  • Sound knowledge in computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint)
  • Work experience requirements: 3+ years of work experience as an MLT or MLA
  • Familiar with CSMLS standards and industry needs
  • Experience working with a diverse student population is an asset
  • Experience with online learning management systems (Moodle, D2L, etc) an asset
