Job Description

Mechanical Forensic Engineer | Vehicle Fire, Collision, and Building Equipment Investigator.

We are excited to invite a Mechanical Engineer to be part of our awesome team in Moncton. As the title suggests, this Investigator will work on projects and investigations involving building machinery and mechanized equipment failures associated to vehicle fires, and motor vehicle collisions.

Reporting to the Moncton Regional Manager, the person leads technical investigations involving mechanical failures, or fire and explosion associated with machinery and, vehicles from initially collecting the evidence on site to preparing the final technical report and ultimately giving expert testimony in a court if needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct or lead investigations to determine the root and cause of fire and explosion, and/or mechanical breakage of vehicles including passenger, commercial, powersport vehicles, and equipment including farm, industrial, manufacturing, and off-road mobile machinery, etc.
  • Conduct or lead investigations into motor-vehicle collisions involving motor vehicles of all types.
  • Participate in marketing and business development activities. Promote CEP as an effective business partner. Identify potential clients, build business relationships, and generate new business.
  • Always follow HSE guidelines, procedures, and policies. Ensure the safety of yourself, others, and assets.
  • Visit the location of the incident and record and gather facts and evidence regarding the background and circumstances surrounding the incident.
  • Prepare final investigation finding reports that may be in the form of a brief letter style or a detailed, illustrated report depending on the complexity of the case.
  • Conduct technical investigations related to applied General and industrial mechanics (Manufacturing and production equipment, methods, plumbing, vehicles and machinery)
  • Review technical documentation that may include engineering drawings, relevant standards, regulations, codes, operating manuals, and maintenance records.
  • As needed, carefully dismantle components or assemblies in a systematic and non-destructive manner to obtain and preserve the evidence.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and execute all phases according to internal and external standards.


The ideal candidate will:

  • Be proficient in speaking and writing in English, and French.
  • Be able to present, teach, mentor, or otherwise explain technical concepts to colleagues and clients.
  • Have excellent technical writing skills and proficiency with MS Office, and Google Apps.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of motor vehicles, machinery, and equipment, as well as typical failure mechanisms and types of testing with the ability to use a variety of test equipment and devices.
  • Possess excellent synthesis, analysis, problem-solving, and leadership skills.


Requirements:

  • CFEI and/or CVFI certification, an asset.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in automotive engineering, general mechanics, and/or industrial applied mechanics.
  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering or a recognized equivalent.
  • Be registered or be eligible to register as a Professional Engineer within the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland.
